Has anyone gotten their alien?

i know the frames were delayed cause of weather but I was wondering if anybody has received their frames yet and what your opinions about it is.

Ride Among Us 07-03-08 06:33 PM

I already asked this twice. I really want to know, too. I want to see pics, see the lugs up close, hear how heavy or light they are, and hear how long it took to get it. There was so much talk about these a while back. Now they are finally here... and I want to know. I seriously may purchase one.

eXCeSS 07-03-08 11:32 PM

bump, i want to see these

jcapell 07-04-08 12:05 PM

I'm waiting on my frame, powdercoat probably adding about 2 weeks to the delivery date. Will post as soon as it arrives, along with build pics: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=434830

Really anxious, espcially since all the other components are poised and ready to mount!

Ride Among Us 07-04-08 12:50 PM

what color did you choose? when did you purchase? i'm considering the metallic green or silver. i want to see how accurate the turn around is and how you like it.

edit, oops all the ansers are in your link.

Anyone know how the Alien wheels are? They look pretty decent for the price.

Daft Monk 07-05-08 11:31 AM

Yeah, I'm really anxious as well. I have all the parts ready, including the first wheel set I built. My frame only needed the fork drilling so hopefully it should arrive soon.

No direct contact, but I've heard of people stripping hubs in fairly catastrophic circumstances.

I like the look and the price of the frames.

As in stripping hubs resulted in catastrophic circumstances, or catastrophic circumstances led to stripping of the hubs?

I'm going to use automotive paint with a preval sprayer. It'll be light blue with white lugs and yellow text. It isn't much cheaper than the powder coat but I get to customize it better and it's more durable than a rattle can job. I'll post some pics once i get the frame in and paint it.

Also, do you know if the people that have stripped their hubs used the cog/lockring that came with the wheelset? The guy says that the ones that come on there are pretty cheap/****ty and should be replaced

jcapell 07-05-08 07:51 PM

If 'Yes' means you've rec'd yours, please provide details, photos, opinions, etc!

i also ordered a frame about 2 months ago. frames were meant to ship 18th of June (or week or two later for powdercoated frames), so really i should be receiving my frame around now. i've been trying to contact the guy for the last week but no response. i'm in the same position as some of you; all the parts sitting here and myself waiting anxiously.

667 07-07-08 07:21 PM

Bump

He's famous now after a year for not returning every email. I've bought items twice and never recieved a answered question. but they always come though. i love my cranks. i think they're just busy doing what they need to do to get all the orders through. there is probably many frames to powdercoat.

Daft Monk 07-09-08 10:25 AM

I got a reply back from my email. He said:

It's all in the works, but there is a backlog of packing and shipping orders. Soon!

Joseph

PS: if it's too long, I can send a refund, just let me know.

just got a refund from joseph on my crankset, new one's coming from bens, couldn't handle any longer as it's the only bit missing from my new bike and I had no idea of when it might arrive. so yes, I believe he's barraged with emails.

What size BB are you running? Ben's recommends a 110.5. Alien recommends 103 (I think).
I have the Andels from Ben's on a 110.5mm BB. My chain line is 42mm.

Current status

Howdy. This is Joseph from Alien Bikes. Here is the short version of what the current status is:

The frames were delayed by first errors in construction.
Then the new remade frames were delayed by weather.
Then I went away for "vacation" that had been planned months in advance so I couldn't change when the frames arrived later than planned. This meant I couldn't email that often so issues took longe rto resolve.
Some of the boxes were mislabeled so the frames needed to be individually measured to make sure no size mix-ups happen.
The frames are at a 3rd party warehouse that does storage and packing for mail order companies. They provide an excellent service, but it means sorting out things like the mislabeled boxes takes a long time with lots of back-and-forth.

The frames are all there, and are being sorted and will ship soon.

I'm new to this and this is the first batch, so I guess I should have been more cynical about what shipping dates to expect. I understand some folks are frustrated by the delays and "run-around" but I'm sure they will think it was worth the wait once their frames arrive!

I will have nice pics soon showing details, but in the meantime here are some snapshots (ignore the crappy paint):

http://alienbikes.com/track_frame/track_frame.html

I hope to have some pics of customer bikes soon. And a bike is to be reviewed on fixedgeargallery as soon as it is painted and assembled.

Thanks!

Joseph
