WW Giant TCR Aluminum SS build

Since I have a new carbon frame on the way, I thought that I would convert the old TCR aluminum into a single speed as I do not want to part with this frame. It comes in at 1074g so it is a keeper. It could be lighter for a single speed as the new fully geard build will only be about half a pound heavier when completed. I forgot to mention that I have not put the bar tape on yet because I am not 100% sure that the RUE bar/stem will work on the new build and if it does not then these bars and stem will go on the new build and the RUE bar/stem will go on the single speed.

Giant TCR Zero SS

I think that I will get a 1/2 link in 3/32 to reduce the chain length a bit more.

I need to get a proper spacer for the inside of the conversion kit and a KCNC lockring to finish off the back section.

There is a lot of carbon back here. The Singulator has been tuned with carbon but Ti and aluminum bolts are needed to finish it off. 100g currently.

I love the look of this crank now. X2's have aluminum butterflies.

Cool reflection on the 42t spiderless chainring.

Needs more carbon.

With a frame that nice, I would go for a White ENO hub and dispense with the singulator, but that's just me - if weight is your main concern, maybe it's not worth it. Definitely a different build than you normally see around here...

Pretty freakin sweet. I was a big WW guy with my MTB. Got it down to 21lbs and there was still a lot of weigth to shed. With my SS I didn't focus on weight but I've been thinking about doing a full WW SS build just for the fun of it. How does that carbon cog and chain ring hold up? And where did you get them?

Really nice. Excellent hillclimb bike. Where's the rear cog and chainring from? That guy in Finland? Perhaps aim for "magic gearing" so you can get rid of the tensioner.
Your front skewer is in the wrong way around.
Get a Tune bottle cage, lighter seat and a BTP seatpost clamp.

I did not notice the skewer the wrong way. Thanks. I was busy trying to get all three builds finished this afternoon while my little guy was down for a nap. Was tough to get all three done in such a short time.

I was going to go with a magic gear but I find that a 42X16 is perfect for me so I will keep the tensioner. As for the other items, the OMNI racer clamp is only 9g, yes the seat could be lighter but this one is so comfy to ride plus I have a 76g carbon saddle for my new RS2 build waiting for me but I do have a SLR carbon saddle in the garage that I might put on but that is 155g so it would only save 30g but I might still put that on this bike and then put this Arione on the Fixed gear build. As for bottle cages, I have 2 X 17g cages in a box waiting for th new build buy I might only use one for that build so I can put the other on here to save a bit more weight.

Pls tell me you have 1 cf chainring and photographed all 3 bikes with it in turn. Buying 3 wd be sooo silly.
The cf cog is even worse.
Hot bikes btw.

The carbon chainring will not be a problem as I have had one on my SS mountain bike build for almost a year with not one issue. As for the carbon cog well I am actually not sure what will happen with that but I am fine if it explodes but chances are it will be fine as the manufacturer is using a full carbon cassette with around 2000km on it and it is wearing a bit but still works. The only issue is the splines on the freewheel killing the carbon which I can see happening.

I am glad that everyone is having some fun with the builds. It was fun to build them, fun to ride them and fun to read everyone's comments.

If you never try you will never know what is possible.

I think that I will put my SLR Carbonio saddle on this bike to lower the weight by 30g more and then put the Fizik Arione carbon on the Langster to drop the weight by 70g on that bike. I still need to add bar tape once I know what is going on with the RS2 build.

I would really like to break the 12 lbs mark for the bike but we will see.

come on dood, carbon fiber valve caps! just taking the plastic caps off is cheating!

btw, would carbon fiber be lighter than the cheapo plastic used for the caps?

Once I have some time to finish off the build lists for my bikes, I will send the list and picture to light-bikes and ligh-bikes.de to get them posted but I did do a posting at Fairwheelbikes forum and WW site.

I switched out the bars on this build to my RS2 build as these ones are lighter and put the Rue Sports bonded F99/EC90 Equipe bars on this bike. Put on some Fizik bar tape and the tensioner is now in the push up position as it works a lot better in the up position for the carbon cog. I had it in the pull down position but it did not wrap around the cog enough and the chain would slip with any power put down.

It is working great right now and I will add a 3/32 half link this week to get the chain as short as possible while keeping the gearing combo that I want.

The build finished at 12.42 lbs or 5630g

Very happy with this build and it rides like a dream.
