I voted to braze up your own because this is something I would love to do. Whether it ever happens or not I don't really know yet. Next I would love to find a classic in a second hand store for cheap...because I am cheap...err, ahh poor at the moment.

There are quite a few inspirational websites around that document how to build your own frame, with very few tools and only rudamentary jigging.

Yeah, I've seen that site. I've been reading up on frame building a lot. There are a few things I need to take care of before taking on a project like that. First I need to find rhe space to put another bike, second I don't know yet how much some good tubing costs. Mostly I'm just going to keep reading and searching Goodwill stores for nice old bikes that need to be rescued.

i'd rather get a custom steel frame built if i could afford it. i think a very close second would be finding a classic...but id' still rather have a brand new new badass looking steel frame, like a harry havnoonian or something...nothing obscenely expensive. just a nice, new, tough ride.

Yeah, I've never built a lugged frame before. I like them, but I like to do funky things with angles and the lugs seemed very restrictive, unlike TIG. Which is fine if you want a 73/73, 56cm square frame....which I don't.
But yeah, this year, it's on the 'to do' list.

On the way home from my TIG class tonight I was just thinking of building a frame. Still don't have the cash for a TIG machine, but I'm pretty sure I can either fillet braze or ox-acetelene weld up the tubes and make it work. I'm thinking I have to get ahold of some old bikes and cut them up and get a feel for working with thin tubing like that. I've TIG welded it before and it was no probelmo so I thing I can do it. Building the frame jig though.... that might be a whole different can of worms. My next fixie may be a home built though.
