Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Yup. Easy to get in and out of the cage, and comfortable. They get stinky though, so designate a pair stictly for riding.

considering the popularity of fixed gears in this day and age i am suprised that no one has banked on the shoe market, imagine instead of Nike SB it was Nike FG but seriously, i have ridden in vans slip on's and enjoyed it.

They didn't nail them to the pedals, they nailed slotted cleats to the soles. The slotted cleats would hook into the pedal and the clips and straps would hold them in place.

I have a pair of Bata touring shoes from th early 80's. Canvas upper, looks like the sole was dipped in old erasers & have a metal plate imbedded where it meets the pedal. Narrow with a skinny little heel. I should photogragh what's left of them. Doubt you could find them now.

What ever my current skate shoes are (usually some form of Vans...they do have the best soles for skateboarding!). When going to softball practice/games, I wear my cleats b/c I don't like lugging a bunch of sh*t w/me. That can get a little dicey sometimes.
