Finally Gonna Do It
I've been putting it off for years but I'm finally going to get my ass in gear [sorry] and start a fixie project.
My plan (as little of it as there is right now) is to find an older steel lugged frame and build it up. I have a couple frames lined up that I might use, one on ebay. I'm aiming to do this relatively cheap, but not low quality. Just want to hit that sweet spot between price and value. After I pull off the frame off I'm thinking next step is to score some wheels. This guy on eBay has a ton of fixie wheels listed that he apparantly builds himself, all of them pretty similar to this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3654652981 He has a variety of rims but all seem to be in the 130 to 160 range for a set. He also has some with Surley hubs that run a little more (170ish). Seems cheap for a wheelset to me. Any words of advice? About the wheels or just about my plan in general? (I've been reading Sheldon Brown's advice quite a bit also but it's all pretty new to me so it's still sinking in). Thanks :) |
Damn, if I had the coin (or a bigger hole in my head), I'd grab a set of those yellow rims just for the fun of it.
PS: In before the Ad-Bot..... |
I don't know but darn it, best of luck to you! You're on the right track! (no pun intended)

seems like a reasonable price to me, you might be able to build them yourself cheaper if you're lucky, it depends whether you want to learn how to build a wheel. They look nice though, i'd like a pair, i'd just need a frame that would go with that colour.
