final part for build: brake levers
I am looking to pick up some new brake levers. They are the last thing I need to complete my bike. I am planning on running in single speed for a while so i will need both levers. I am going to be putting them on flatbars. What style of brake should I get? I was thinking cane creek cross levers but i dont feel like those will give me the stopping power and leverage that I'd like. I have also been looking at these . Which ones would be best or is there a better option? Bmx brake? etc. Thanks.

What handlebars are you using? Cross levers won't fit risers without a shim of some sort, and BMX levers won't fit road bars.

Assuming you are using a standard (7/8") mountain bar, I like dia-compe Tech77's. Those shimanos will work too.

Hey,
I used Diacompe's Goldfingers on my flat. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...i/KC280083.jpg I still use these on my chop-and-don't-flip-bar. For my risers, I used these. I tried on flat bar too and they work fine. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...i/KC280104.jpg I think these look small and out of the way of good looks of your bike, methinks. T Additional Comment: The latter lever is good for another reason. Levers tend to take up a lot of handlebar space; so you cannot have narrow handle setup with some of them. I think you will have problem with Shimano ones especially. I had the lever you are talking about before and I had to get lid of them because them. You ought to take your measurement so you are sure the lever fits your ideal handle bar setup. |

The Paul E-Lever is by far the nicest brake lever but it will cost you ($50). I have a Dia-Compe Dirt Harry which is pretty similar to the Goldfinger and mounts nicely next the stem clamp on my bullhorns. Unfortunately most BMX levers have a fairly chunky clamp-on which I don't really like. Cross levers are better for a minimalist look.

will cross levers work fine as my primary brake (stopping power, durability, etc)

Yes, cross levers work.
