Be Honest

What do you think when you see someone with

1. A FG conversion?
2. A front brake?

solbrothers 07-26-08 09:24 PM

bigbris1 07-26-08 09:25 PM

OK

Jabba Degrassi 07-26-08 09:32 PM

1. Depends entirely on the bike that was converted. If it was some super-rare vintage road bike with the braze-ons dremelled off I might shake my head a few times, but if it's a Peugot or something I don't really care, I see plenty every day, and unless I like them, which I often do, I don't really think twice about them.

2. I have a front brake. I like seeing front brakes. Unless it's on my bike and I'm not riding it. =/

So you'd rather your bike didn't have a brake?

anthegreat1 07-26-08 09:39 PM

1. Indifference.
2. Indifference.

I was trying to make a joke about my bike being stolen but failed. ;_;

1. Get your money up
2. Get your skills up

wearyourtruth 07-26-08 10:12 PM

in all honesty...

1. as long as it's done nice i think "that's a sweet fixed gear" and usually don't even notice it's a conversion until i see the drop-outs

2. i never think twice when i see someone with a brake. it's when i see someone without a brake that i think to myself "oh man... i know what happens then"

laryanshabaz 07-26-08 10:12 PM

1. Not enough data to compute.
2. I bet they can stop their bike reasonably.

imoscardotcom 07-26-08 10:12 PM

"Theres someone who probably has fun riding a bike, cool." Nailed it.

Honestly, put on a pair of blinders on if what other people ride bothers you that much. Converting bikes is an enjoyable process that keeps a lot of vintage bikes out of the landfill.

bicycleptic 07-26-08 10:19 PM

I really dont understand the hatred for someone not riding the same kind of bike we do. If you drive do you hate anyone not driving the same kind of car as you? When I am riding I am always happy to see someone else riding. Dont matter if they are a hipster. Dont matter if they are on a 20 speed Colnago. Dont matter to me if they are on a cobbled up conversion. At least they are riding a bike instead of riding in a cage and waisting fuel.

I have three young children to raise. My fixie has a front brake on it.
