I am a newbie to the forum and just discovered your thread. All I can say is thank you for sharing. I wonder if you had any inkling that sharing your act of kindness toward this young girl would touch so many people in such a positive way.
I guess the lesson is that we should never pass up the opportunity to do good in this life, you never know what it might lead to. I will remember you and Velocity in my prayers.

i can't believe what i'm reading. this is AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING.

Atrocity Jones painted by Velocity Stevens? her name is velocity. this girl is the next lance armstrong. this is by far one of the most incredible bicycle-related stories i have ever heard. thank you for sharing it. you are incredibly blessed to have this bike. ride it often. ride it in good health.

It's been a little over 3 months since Velocity's last chemo treatment and she has been in remission. Her monthly tests have shown clean, but her health shall be volatile for a few years. She has begun school again last month and is in good spirit. Her hair is growing, a beautiful head of short but wispy blond hair. She has a collection of caps and hats, including a good number of cycling caps that I gave her. She wears them mostly when it's cold, but goes without a head cover to show she is not afraid of being the subject of unfriendly peer comments. The last course of treatment was more unfriendly to her than most people can never imagine for themselves. This young girl has the bravery that makes your heart swell.

Send good thoughts.

I don't know whether I'd want to ride that or build a shrine around it. Either way, it wouldn't be enough.

Love WINS. Hooray for the humans on this one.

Glad to hear that she is doing well. This is a truly touching story. I am not going to lie and say it didn't make me cry....it did. Thank you for sharing it with us. Stories such as this remind us of how fragile life is and that there are always reasons to be thankful for what we have. We often forget how a simple gesture can impact someone else' life for the better. I also have to say that I applaud you for not writing about it for the pat on the back. It shows your character and I think that the world as a whole could benefit from more people like you. Thanks again

It wasn't easy but I immediately said OK. I told her I'm holding her to it. So, I guess I'll have to wait for the signature.

Thanks for all your comments.

This is so awesome

Powerband,I hope you have a journal that you record the daily life with this young lady, she is awsome. No matter what happens between you two,you need to write a book. your book would be an inspiration to others.the good, the bad,and i do really want it to be the best, but even if its not,Im sure you could change someones life and make them care about somthing other than themselves, this is a truly inspirational story.I dont know either of you,but I give you all the love I can,I know its not much. When she is old enough, show her this thread and let her know that people she has never met love her,if for nothing more than her couragesnes.

may peace be with you both.

wow what a great story.

I think that it will serve you well as art in the house, but I wonder how velocity would feel about it not being ridden. Either way it is great that you gave her this opportunity and make sure you take good care of that frame and build it up right.

Just had to reply to this thread. I have been following this thread since it was posted in a non-bike forum months ago. There are lot of people following this like myself.

It is a wonderful story which I know will have a beautiful ending. Velocity will ride the bike and enjoy the wind in her hair. It is an inspiration to know that there are beautiful people out there.
Reading something like this makes me feel so good inside.

Powerband, thank you for your words that seem to flow so perfect for this story.

Velocity, you are an inspiration to us all. God bless you. You are always in my thoughts.

Just another person touched by this thread.

I'm glad I read this awesome story. You are a great man! She is a great artist!

May be you'll inspire her to cycle 'cause with a name like Velocity Stevens, you HAVE to cycle!

Again, awesome story. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside
