What would you pay
For the following bike, I have been hunting for a SS/fixed and was going to build my own, but I think this might be a good deal, just wanted to ask the experts first. I know some people hate these threads so I apologize.
"I have for sale a '79 Fuji, with a fresh white powder-coat. I have completely refurbished this bike leaving only the original stem and the dia-compe long reach brakes.
Parts rundown:
Handlebars: Brand New Nitto B-105 Road hbars 38cm 26.0 clamp size(good for darting in and through traffic!)
Brake Levers: Brand New late 80's NOS vintage Suntour Sprint (Aero) (Nice!) w/ new JagJagwire cable and brand new NOS vintage Suntour cable housing, Vintage NOS Cable housing guides!
Tape: Brand New: Cinelli cork
Stem: Original Nitto 100 mm (Really neat stem!)
Headset: Brand New: Tange headset
Brakeset: Original Dia-compe Long-reach Brakes, polished (Requires old-school LR Brakes to reach rim!)
Wheelset: Brand New: Hubs: Formula flip/flop hubs, Surly 18t fixed cog and lock ring, Shimano 18t freewheel.
Brand New: Rims: Mavic CR 18 27" (Not 700c). *700c will work but you still will need the LR brakes.
Tires: Panzanella 27" w/side walls
Seat-post: Brand New: Vintage NOS: Gipiemme (made in Italy)Fluted silver and matte black (26.4) (my favorite part on the bike! I designed the color scheme to match it!!)
Saddle: Velo Plush saddle
Crankset: FSA Omega SS road crank (170mm) 50t chainring.
Bottom Bracket: FSA Omega external BB (68mm) English."

27" wheels are kind of a hassle. The selection of tires on the market for 27" is limited compared to
all the 700c tires available.
For this reason, I wouldn't buy that bike.

After all that investment, my guess is that the seller is seeing $$$ that just aren't gonna happen. We don't know anything about the frame, there are plenty of good lightweight Fuji's and just as many, if not more, mild steel entry-level models.
The external bearing BB doesn't thrill me and IMHO looks out of place on an older frame. I have 27" wheels on my conversion and am fine with that, but I see the argument for the benefits of 700c as well.
For all I know, it could be a great bike. The owner obviously is proud of the work that he or she has done, but in the end, it's just another conversion. A picture is worth a thousand words they say, but I would personally go $250 at most on a bike like this.

If I were looking for a used bike, and it fit, and it looked well assembled, it would be worth no more than $100 to me. 27" wheels and old single pull brake just don't do it for me. And I would only buy it if I needed a bike right now. Because I'd build a bike more to my liking given time.

I have plenty of time, just not enough patience. I still am thinking in the back of my head doing one myself is what I really want, I am just cheap but I do like to tinker. I figured if this was close I could buy it a lot cheaper than I could the parts for a new one. That's why i am torn. I think it would mean more to me if I were to build one. Just need to find a cool old frame to start with.
