Front whell quick relaes

I'd like to share some front wheels used on my road bikes with my FG.
Is it safe to use a quick release front wheel on a FG?

Would it be any different than a regular bike with a quick release?

onespeed89 08-03-08 11:12 AM

yes why wouldn't it be?

Only ask as all I see are bolt on hubs for front and rear. I understand to se bolt on at rear for stronger connection.
Any issues with front hubs that do not have high flange?

no difference at all, it is more of a visual thing. and you cant have quick releases on the track

I have considered changing my fixed gear bike to a quick release on the front. I remove the front wheel on my bikes a lot more then the rear because the bike mounts to my rack in the truck with the front fork.

I had a fixed gear bike with a QR on the rear only, to facilitate flipping the wheel to change gear ratios. I used it for club time trials. I would ride out to the time trial in the lower ratio, then flip the wheel to the higher ratio for the race, then back again for the ride home. Of course it was the old fashioned internal cam type QR.
