chain popping

hey everyone,

i just put together my first fg conversion about a month ago. I was having alot of problems with the chain popping off on the chainring. I'm fairly certain that this was due to a less than perfect chain line, however after rearranging some spacers on the hub the frequency of that has gone down dramaticly (its happened once since). I have noticed the sound and feel associated with this popping a couple times without the actual effect of the chain leaving either the cog or chainring. What could be causing this?

Possible problems:

1. Chainline.
2. Loose Chain.
3. Your track nuts are loose? Or if you're using QR... yikes.
4. Ramped chain rings.
5. Not the best chain. I like 1/8" myself.
6. Kink in the chain?
7. Bent frame or chainring.

Thats all I can think of. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback, I think that a bent chainring is the culprit. It was on the bike when I got it at a flea market, but haven't had the $ to replace it yet. Looks like i'll have to tighten my belt a little. or can I fix this using brute force and a hammer?

i'd imagine you may be able to try to bend it slightly in a vice. i'd try to be gentle though.
