The unspoken group ride!
Anyone just enjoy riding with strangers rather than proving him/herself to them? I've enjoyed taking a lane on dangerous roads with another rider just for that "safety in numbers" feel. Last week me and a kitted up roadie attacked Beacon St's hill. I saw him 2 hours later still flyin along on the other side of Boston. A smile and hello makes it more amusing to me than a scowl and sprint. Though I get a kick out of being blown away by some dude on a 15 year old mountain bike.

Unfortunately....there are too many selfish self centered mental midgets in the world. If I'm ever in MA we'll ride together Jim. Who cares if people pass us.

If after we've gone a few blocks together or we're stopped at a light (yeah, it happens sometimes) I'll nod or say hi. Sometimes I'll play follow-the-leader with messengers if I see they'll carve out the routes for me on congested streets. I don't usually bring my bike when I visit Boston, but should the opportunity arise, I'd welcome the company out there.

Great post. Say "Hi." Say "Nice weather". Say "Nice bike!" Say "Where you headed?" If they don't want to be bothered, give a wave and ride on. If they do want to chat, take turns pulling on the front, point out potholes (yeah, I'm from Boston, too), and when you split up, give a wave and ride on.
