Help me build a SS with $1200-1300 budget

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Help me build a SS with $1200-1300 budget

Hi All,

I have $1200-1300 to spend on a new bike which will be a SS commuter.
The build will be off a Surly Karate Monkey w/ Big Apple tires and maybe an On-One Mary handlebars.

Other than that I'm ignorant on which remaining components will fill the remaining budget.

Would like to try to run disc on front and V on back.

Future additions will be for fenders and rear rack.

Any help is appreciated greatly!

Thanks.

I think you understood "front disc wheel and back deep V" when I am pretty sure he meant "front disc brake and rear v-brake"
