they forgot to get rid of the laces.

No kidding eh? The first thing I though when I first heard about these shoes was "better be velcro," or at least have some sort of cover for the laces and some other way to keep the laces securely tucked away.

Needless to say, I was immediately disappointed.

What, no stiffer sole? I want to see some Prison Issues, ballistic nylon, with stiffened soles.

just got a pair yesterday from my local shoe store installation !

it also comes with a small bag to hold a spare tube/co2 which velcro's onto your seat rails.

some other cool things: its got reflective stripes woven into the laces, and the vans logo on the back is reflective.

i also like how the front of the shoe ( ill call it the toe cap) is extra large, with the laces starting near the middle of the shoe so they dont get stuck in your toeclips. And the toe cap feels really burly.

too bad there kinda expensive (80$) but i think theyll last long enough to make it worth it.

they are also kinda heavy like twice as heavy as another pair of vans i have, i think that they reinforced the sole.

i would have hoped to see velcro too, but these laces are pretty wide, and unlike some of my other shoes these laces are really hard to move around, which means they wont get looser on you as you ride.

Something tells me that saddle bag was the product of a focus group consisting of 16 yr olds who "dabble" in fixed gear riding. Or roadies?? Who knows?

I just got one, and it's bloody useful on my fun-and-fitness rides when I don't want to carry a backpack and my spandex garb affords me no pockets. Now I have a place for my keys!

And my spare.

And my patch kit.

And my allen keys, a multi-head screwdriver, a black rubber ***** and a quart of whiskey.

Yeah, life is sweet...

no jersey? i fit everything into my pockets. I carry my essentials in a hip bag sometimes so I don't have to worry about the tiny possibility of them falling out.

Nah, I have a tight-ish wicking tee with no pockets and lycra shorts with no pockets that I wear on trail rides and I figured, for my money, I can either have a saddle-bag which I can use no matter what I'm doing/wearing, or a jersey, which I can only use when I'm... well, wearing my jersey.

I also like the ability to basically create an emergency pack, with all my tools/spares/first aid stuff, rather than having to find all my crap and stuff my pockets every time I ride. Just grab the bag, strap it to the bike, and go.

makes sense, for commuting I use a hippack because I don't trust a saddle bag left outside on a college campus.

+1 on the tiny saddlebag for serious riding. just enough room to have an easy tire change and your wallet.
