Schwinn Varsity - Ready to Ride

Here's what I got off Craigslist:

I then played with the idea of going obnoxiously over the top....

But realized i'd rather have something a little more 'rugged'...

that was fun for my first ever conversion!

flame on....

Love that beer. $7.99 a bottle is a bit expensive, though.

So - i did my first ever race a couple weeks ago. Duathlon. 4 mile run followed by a 10 mile ride. While I suck at running... the ride was fun, i did it on the single speed. At an average 17.5 mph pace! woohooo!

Nicely done! I just did an unofficial triathlon with some friends for fun a couple weeks ago and we held the same average. These guys were all competitive triathletes, though, so I think they were pretty bored at that pace. I, on the other hand, thought I was going to die.

I'm hooked now - i've been looking at 'real' road bikes since the day of the race. Even went to the extent of test riding an '08 Cannondale 6 Thirteen today. I gotta really work on my running... but a better bike would be fun for those events!
