IRO Mark V Order
I placed an order yesterday for a 56 cm Mark V and now I am wondering if I should of got the 59. I know there are countless threads on this but oh well. Here's the specs on my road bike that fits me great and the specs of the 56 and 59 cm IRO. I have no idea which one to get. The bike is going to be used for commuting so I want a comfortable fit but still maneuverable. Thanks for the opinions.
Current Bike - 56cm Trek 1500 Top Tube: 56.2cm Seat Tube: 56cm Stand Over: 31.1 in 56cm IRO Top Tube: 55.5 cm Seat Tube 52 cm (this is what scares me, is it only measured to the center of the top tube or to the top of the collar?) Stand Over: 31 in 59cm IRO Top Tube: 57cm Seat Tube: 55cm Stand Over 32 in If anyone has measured their seat tube from the collar to them middle of the bottom bracket and could let me know that would be great. |
just placed an order for a mark v 56cm as well!
yeh, their c-t sizing kind of threw me too. i called them and they put me on this size frame, though the conversation did feel kind of rushed and there was a bit of commotion in the background! oh well, the top tube measurement was perfect and going up to a 59 made me really nervous. in the infinite posts on sizing iro frames someone had mentioned that they were actually smaller than their stated size (kind of the way the mercier's are sized...) but someone corrected the poster about them not being smaller but being...something, i can't remember. anyway, i'm curious too. |
I'm 5'10.5"... The more I'm thinking about it the more I think them 59 would work best but I really have no clue.
|
dunno. i'm 5'11", 32" and change inseam. there's a guy on here who is 5'9" 33" inseam or something and rides a 59 and loves it, there's also one who seems exactly my size and rides the 56 and loves it. who are you to believe. i just called iro to put my mind at ease...
still wondering about the c-t measurement though... |
im 5'11'' with a 33'' inseam and rid a 59cm Soma Rush and almost got a 59cm Mark V but i got the Soma with much better parts for $400
|
I don't want a Soma Rush. Sorry.
|
im 5'11" with a 33" inseam. I use to have a 59cm Angus, and it was too big. I wished i would have gotten the next smaller size.
|
I'm 6'2" with a 35" inseam and went with a 59 cm Mark V. It fits me perfectly. The seat is jacked up by about 4-5 inches.
|
uhhmmm....exactly! see robsilverii, it's all relative. i don't know, i figure i'll just stress about it until it arrives and i actually get to see it! i, however, ordered mine from pricepoint and they were out of the 59 so i could not have purchased it anywhoo...
|
robsilverii, here's a comparison of my old 56 and new 59 group buys (certain it's the exact same geometry as the mark v). we're the same height, so this should give you a vague idea of the proportioning you'll encounter.

I'm just under 5'11" ~32 and I got the 59 Mark V. I ordered one larger because he told me they ran small but when I stand over it my balls are barely touching the bike. I had to shorten up the stem a little and sometimes I feel a little stretched sometimes but for the most part it's not bad. Oh and the ball touching issue really increased my track stand ability.

I guess as long at the Standover height is not too much than I should go with the 59
|
I'm just under 5'10" (177cm). just over 32 inch real cycling inseam. I spoke with Tony personally, and he put me on the 59cm. And it works beautifully. I think the sizing is essentially stated size minus 3cm to equal other bikes. So the 59cm is really like a 56cm. And this makes sense to me by feel. My 59cm IRO actually feels a bit smaller to me than my 57cm Look road racing bike. Geometry is a weird thing.

NewYorkMantle, do you mind measuring your standover height for me?
|
gfrance, like i said, i'm taller than you with probably a bit longer inseam and i was put on a 56 by tony...so, again, it's relative. plus, when doing my calculation for top-tube i was put somewhere between 55-55.4 so anything longer would seem have me stretched out over the top of the bike.
|
I'm 5'10 with a 32" inseam.
I tried both a 56 and a 58 in the Rob Roy, and although I know that sizing is different, that frame also has IRO's "compact geometry". I went with the 56, partially due to top tube junk clearance, and partially to have a tighter fit for riding in NYC traffic. |
I really have no clue what to do. If I felt confident in the fact that the stand over on the 59 would not be too big I would call Tony have em switch me over to one.
|
have you called him? it somewhat put my mind at ease. fact is, you won't know until you ride it. and, quite frankly, if you're worried about stand over, i think you ordered the right one!
oh yeh, how long is your wait for this bike? the whole 3-4 week thing really bothered me... |
I ordered by bike on July 30th and was notified that it had been shipped on August 7th. As of 11:39am on the 8th, the bike is sitting in Secaucus, NJ, less than an hour away. Unfortunately, it's not scheduled to arrive at my apartment until the 11th.
I think the quick turnaround had to do with the fact that I ordered a Mark V with a pretty standard build. |

you don't by chance live in new york city and would be willing to let me take your bike for a spin around the block would you? i'm 6'3" and 34" inseam and i'm about to pull the trigger on an IRO, but am a bit nervous about which size to get. thanks, eric |
I'm 6' with a 33" inseam and I ride a 59 Mark V. I just measured the stand over height for you it was 33". However, my nuts are not sitting on the top tube when I'm standing on the ground, I got plenty of room. Maybe I don't know how to measure my inseam correctly
|
5'11 1/2 w/ 32.5"-33" cycling inseam. I got a 59 Mark V and had to swap it for a 56 Mark V. With the 170mm crank I needed to have the seat pretty much all the way down to avoid having my leg completely extended and stretched on the down stroke and when standing my balls rested on the top tube in regular shoes. The 56 works much better for me.
