How far on a fixie ?
 

Hi guys, as ive not ridden fixed in 16 years and only been out twice for little rides since building mine, this weekend ive decided to go for a all day ride on it, ive changed the clips and straps to some spuds as im use to them more, and find it easyer to get back in, any advice would be great, ive got all day , im not going to be riding at mack1 lol, just cruising, i just wont to break the bike in, thanks alot

yeah, honestly what is his question. Maybe how far do the members ride their fixies?

I think he wants help with pedals. He explained what he did... but asks for advice. I think.

I guess if you're just cruising and you have a brake then you don't need your feet locked in, you can just roll with regular pedals or bmx platforms. I rode my bike with just some big fat bmx pedals for a while (the shin rapers that eat your bones for lunch) and that was fine.

as far as your legs will take you. don't ride all day if you're not used to more than an hour at a time. work your way up.

cheers, im on my own so i can stop when i want to, ive got all day, and dont ride as much these days due to juggling kids and work etc, so not as fit as i was, i cant wait ,

How far is the nearest coffee shop? That's a great place to relax and think about the way your bike is setup. If there's another shop in striking range, you might try biking there to catch a smoke.

How far? Last week I completed a fixed century, 100 miles. As far as proper training, a good route, good equipment, and knowing how to stay hydrated and not-hungry will allow.

That makes no sense; how do you measure distance by sales?

agree. I rode my fixed 80 miles one day and the tires just stopped turning...i had to wait half an hour before it would let me ride again

Peabodypride: Good job! - Fixed centuries are awesome and not that hard if you train for it - On 3 of the 4 Double Centuries I have ridden this year I have seen fixed/SS riders - the "flattest" one had 7,000+ of climbing! Maybe next year - have to do one before I die!!!!! Did not a RAAM rider finished Fixed this year??

while the urge to further make yourself look like a buffoon can be attractive, it typically gains you nothing in the long run.

I wouldn't say 'training' is necessary for centuries, I did 192km (just short of 120 miles) on a whim a few weeks ago... All I ever do usually is ride to work and back or bike to wherever I'm going (my bike is my transportation), no actual training of sorts... Just work up to it, I'm usually around 5:30/6 hours for a century (fixed or not I seem to ride the same speeds over distance right now), if you take it easier and make a full day of it you'll fare well.

the problem isn't the distance, or even the tempo, it's the grades. the only thing separating doing 100 miles on a fg and doing it on a geared bike is the hills. once they start turning into mountains, you should reconsider.
