Are the velocity wheels worth the extra cash?

Depends on if you value weight or not. Painted Weinnmans run 710g (a.k.a. they're about the heaviest rim you can buy). Velocitys are in the 520-580g range. Neither are aero, both ride like **** (IMO) and are dying trends (bright colored Deep V's are gaudy and on the way out if you care about such things). You're probably better off with a lower profile rim like Aeroheads, Fusions, CXP33 or Open Pro.

I think it really depends what you're riding for, I don't feel my Weinnmans are too heavy in the slightest bit for street riding, even if I do live in a very hilly place. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you have money to burn. But if it's weight your worried about in the first place, I'd say deep v's aren't you answer overall. Again, preference rules all.

I second the sentiments of him above me. I have had no weight problems with my DP18s. However if you do like shiny wheels and pretty colors, the powdercoat on the DP18s isn't that fabulous. It's not bad, just the colors aren't very vibrant. And Deep Vs come in anodized coats too, which are very, very shiny.

I just wonder how you guys would feel about your Weinnmans if you rode around for a few days on some Open Pros or Aeroheads laced with nice double butted spokes.

i currently own DP-18's in silver machined finsh with formula hubs 32h.. I find it quite good for the price. The finish in silver is probably the most eye pleasing. cause the other colours seem to be "bad quality" compare to velocity.

if you have the extra cash, go for the velo's if you want a nice clean coloured rim. but if your on a budget, go with Dp-18's in silver.

The Dp's also have an extra wall Ive heard.. They are double walled rims compared to the velos which are singles? anyone that can confirm this? At any rate, I had a set of Dps and then sold them for a set of custom built velo deep v up front, and a cadence niobium 30 deep v out back with double butted spokes, and as for riding on the street.. the difference is minimal. Ive had seams on both types fall apart/come seperated.. but the spoke tenstion has held everything together nicely, but if things were to get worse Id replace it asap.

edit: save the cash, buy dps if you want that deep look or find a nice box profile rim like the sun m13.

i have deep vs [not pink - black and silver] laced to formulas [36 spoke] and i have no complaints.

some parts are light. some parts are strong. some fall in between. i really think the wheel builder is the most critical part of your purchase.

You might want to add, built by a master wheelbuilder.
