Where are you at with a lugged track frame with steep geometry and no eyelets etc?

Do you feel your model range is too wide or just too large of a change between 2008 and 2009? While you sell many many fixed gear bikes, you likely don't need a Kilo TT, Dawes SST, etc. etc. etc. which are all in the same range. It might be worth keeping the 2 or 3 best selling models and expand what you don't currently have:
Alum track bike
Alum street fixed gear
Lugged steel track bike

If people don't like the Kilo and there's no SST, they'll HAVE to go somewhere else... This way, they have multiple choices from one site, which increases the probability of a sale for BD.

Why wouldn't you like the Kilo over the SST?

Concur with the aluminum frame/true track (sprint) geometry/no bottle brazeons/carbon fork drilled for brake/around $600 opinions. With a flipflop stem that can do a downslope for the look of velodrome-ready goodness. Maybe even with a cheap front brake setup so Mike at BD is covered for liability. (You're welcome; I'll take that free prototype now. 53 cm c-to-t.)

threads like this are awesome.
direct input from consumers and dialogue with manufacturers/distributors is crucial.

the current look for a threadless velodrome racer is having the stem with plenty of rise and at the bottom of the steerer tube.

probably won't see anyone on the street purposely trying imitate that aesthetic any time soon.

make both:

1: aluminum track frame with steep geo and light tubing with no braze-ons... like a fuji track pro with the wheel cutout aero seattube and everything... and a carbon straight blade fork... sell it as a frameset for 300 or a bike for 7-8 with nice wheels. like what everyone's been asking for...

if you really want to stir things up, sell it with no brakes, risers, and neon colored grips and rims. i'll take mine in white with dayglo pink grips.

also make

2: aluminum commuter/cross frame with steel fork and canti brakes ... give it fender clearance and basically make it like a "cross uno pro" with cables on the top of the top tube and aluminum that's thick enough to commute and trail ride on. sell it for a small amount more than the cross uno.

and if you only make one of the two, make 1 not 2.

if you start getting into the 800 dollar range you might as well go full custom like these guys

umm, not really.

a lightweight track bike similar to the ftp would be a better performer on the track than a mission bike. and i wouldn't call a mission bike full custom, i'd call it a regular steel bike with custom color powdercoat options.

basically, i'm thinking realistically in terms of something that will be high enough quality.

i don't want to see a 50 dollar wheelset thrown on a bike light, stiff, and durable enough to rival something like the concept.

$350-$375 i'd say. I'd definately buy one for that price, heck i'd buy two. Really i like the idea of that. Also side note. Any idea/time frame for the Kilo TT Pro? Final price? Im interested in all your stuff, keep it up.

Aluminum commuter SS/FG with eyelets, etc. = terrible idea.

Aluminum track FG with carbon fork (think Fuji Track Pro or Bianchi Pista Concept) = fantastic idea.

Get it at 599.99 and you'll be set.

BD Mike, if you are still listening, I had another thought concerning the Motobecane Track Pro (if it ever happens). Keep the cranks short. Virtually nobody wants 175s on a track bike, especially a track bike that is likely to be ridden on the street. I suggest putting 170s on the largest frames, and 165s on the smaller versions.

I'm fairly certain other people on here will agree.

green color for the idea that =MONEY. Really that is a great idea, make someting just like the Fuji Track Pro/Pista Concept would be awesome. Perhaps a front radial laced wheel would be nice. I love that idea, especially with track geo.

Not that i disagree with the FTP/Concept style being a fantastic idea but why would you think that an alum commuter ss/fg with eyelets, etc. to be a terrible idea? both sound like a great idea to me and he didnt say that he was only capable of producing one or the other.

I myself have money in hand just waiting for the SST alum to be put on the site for purchase and i will snatch it up instantly.

As far as $$ for mike if you keep it as you have it pictured i would say a $400 +/- range would be about accurate, depending of course on the quality of the wheelset primarily and other components, and if you decide to upgrade to a straight blade CF fork, which I agree would be far superior then try your best not to top the $450-475 range unless you have good quality name brand components.

Cuz I want: Bottle cages, fenders, road geo, bullhorns, 2 free brakes, formula hubs, dark green, rack potential, no toe overlap (with fenders it's less than a fenderless Kilo).

Definitely. 175 is even dangerous on the track (well, my local one atleast). I watched a friend clip a pedal while leading out a match sprint last weekend running 175's (for those who haven't seen a match sprint: typically the first lap and a half to two laps are done slooooow...).

YES
and I agree

Still workinbg on this TRACK PRO type bike
and I will find a way to get one as quick as I can

My goal is to do something as nice as you see around $1200 or $1500
but for $599 or $699 or at max $799
I think a buyer should be able to get a very competitive Track bike that is pro level and stay way under $1000

I would like to include Vuelta Team level track wheels; which we find to be bullet proof; but price target will effect that

Thanks for all the good input

Mike

What a year!

SST AL - Kinesis postponed frame delivery

KILO TT and KILO TT PRO - factory finished them but all boats booked out of Taiwan; so waiting to get a sailing date!

Never had so many bikes run so far behind promised date in 30 years

SST AL, KILO TT, KILO TT PRO models should be in about Sept 30th

At least we now have SST, HOUR, and MESSENGER on the water and unloading about 9/15

Fantom Cross UNO also on water and selling out real quick for a first run;
I put some 700x47c tires on my sample just to see if they would fit - that a ride! And it looks wild. But zero room left. So I think 42c is max on that bike. Very interesting bike for the commuter or off-road SS types.
