I have a couple of questions for you Messenger owners. First, unlike the Kilo and Hour, does the Messenger only come in a threaded stem? Second, aside from the brakes, why did you all purchase the Messenger as opposed to the Kilo and Hour? Everyone in this forum loves those two bikes; not much love for the messenger except for you guys in this thread.

My girlfriend got the messenger cause it came with brakes and she wanted to run it singlespeed for a while, plus she dug the pink.

I chose the Messenger over the Hour or the Kilo because it comes with brakes and a freewheel and the orange paint is a lot sexier than either of the other bikes. (yes, i really am that shallow)

I've got my eye on a PhantomCross Uno as a possible future purchase too. I like the idea of having a dedicated fixie (messenger) and a dedicated freewheel SS (PC Uno).

Sorry, I have no idea about the stem since my bike hasn't arrived yet.

for the extra $$ you get brakes and a freewheel. not to mention better colors IMO.

i just got my messenger together, i'm really enjoying the ride.

i think what most people like about the kilo is the reynolds tubing

reynolds 520 = 4130

same steel on the messenger, kilo, and hour.

a close look at the geometry will tell you that the the Kilo has a longer wheel base and shallower head angle - it will ride more relaxed while the messenger/hour will have faster responces but be more skittish.

If choosing between the three, I'd go with the Moto, easy, due to A.) brakes and B.) color. I also prefer the look of the Moto to that of the Kilo.

So they have the Messenger in stock again at BD. I was going to wait to buy the Kilo, but I have no patience. I need help deciding on the right size frame. I am 5'7" with 29" inseam. Should I go for the 49 or 52cm? Thanks.

Does anyone know the largest tires you can fit on this bike?

you may want to go with the smaller one, the 52cm has about 30" standover height.

I just bought a blue one. 54cm. Wish me luck people... haha. I am so excited.

About as hard as putting on your shoes.

but unless you know what your doing or have the tools, take it to a bike shop.

So I am also looking into an entry level complete bike, I have been checking out the stuff on BD and wondering if the messenger would be the best choice. I plan on making some upgrades but it will mostly be stock.

i'm in the exact same situation. i was kinda set on the kilo until i came across this thread and i'm pretty convinced that the messenger is a better choice. i don't plan on replacing much, given it will be my first fixie. as long as the wheels spin and the bike doesn't explode, i think i'm in good shape.

the only problem is i'm 5'9" and the only thing near my size is the 56cm frame (i have to get orange... for obv reasons). the stand over is 31.7" and i'm pretty sure that should be fine. i'd rather have a bike one cm too big and the color i want over the right sized bike in the wrong color, obviously. haha

i'm 5'9" and got the 52cm, so glad i didn't get the bigger bike. but i only have a 30" inseam.

I am the same, sorta relieved that someone with my height getting the same size bike =). I guess it sorta reaffirms me that i didn't pick the wrong size.

I am waiting for a 54cm in blue. Orange is too bright to not attract theives of NYC... OOOOh, i hate them.

i got the blue because i though it was still in stock at the time, i did want it in orange, but it's still nice in blue.
