Cinelli Alter
What do you guys think of this stem? I know it's kind of a tank, but I heard it is extremely heavy-duty.
i think it looks cool but i heard it is very heavy. supposedly the stiffest stem made... but at what cost?
My buddy @ my lbs will sell me his red w/ yellow for 25 bucks. And you are right, it does look very cool.
those are for 1" threadless. Is that your setup?
Can always have it made to 1 1/8" if you have a LSMC (local skilled machine shop).
Yeah 1" is what I am looking for.
I was looking for one possibly for my Giant Bowery as well... I wonder if that would fit. I didn't know you could have it converted to 1 1/8". Do they just bore it out? |
I have no precedent of it being done, but there seems no reason any machinist wouldn't be able to do that in a few minutes.
Yeah I guess it makes sense. It would take a little bit of weight off as well.
That looks really good.
If this stem didnt say Cinelli on it no one would buy it.
It is extremely hideous, yes? |
I think i t looks dope. It's super chunky.
Yeah duuudde!
Its like totally DOPE! DOPE stem dude!! That **** is hella doooope dude! |
I agree with DH on this one. Its the "Cinelli" that sells that monstrosity. But hey, I want to get a Power Tools stem, so what does that say about me...

when i be cruisin' with ma Cinalter, all da ladies be starin' - BALLIN'

They look cool (to some, of course), but they're definitely not all that durable. They tend to crack at the steerer hole – and I can't imagine how quickly one would crack if it were bored out to accept a 1"1/8 steerer. I've seen two broken ones in person, and I'm pretty sure Keevohn from here broke two himself.
I have a 140mm one that I'm contemplating selling, because I like having teeth. |
That stem could say anything on it and I would still love it. But then again, Ithink I love it because of its hideously utilitarian looks.
hmm... maybe ill pick one up as well and bore it out.
