Fixie Newbie...Help :)

Okay so i am starting to build my first fixed gear (yay!) and i have been searching the forums for a lot of my questions but am honestly still confused about some things...

i am getting:
EAI Bare Knuckle frame
Sugino 75 170mm crank with a Sugino 75 track BB

but i can't seem to understand gear ratios and am unsure of what cog and chain ring i need. i will be riding road, mostly pretty flat.

also, what headset should i be getting?

sorry...im slowly learning (and enjoying) all this stuff.
thank you!!!

If you're riding mostly flat I'd say probably 48 x 16 somewhere in that range. Chris King makes a really good headset. Good luck!

Ritchey makes a decent inexpensive headset, and if you want the quality of a King without the extreme spendiness, check out Cane Creek.

I will disagree. That's a pretty tall gear and while it will give you a fast cruising speed, it will be fairly slow to accelerate and tough to slow down (with leg braking). I would go 48x18 for a new rider. This will give you a cruising speed of 21mph (at 100 rpm), decent acceleration, and skid/skip ability.

Once you have monster guads and a good spin you can move up to bigger gears, but I wouldn't start much higher than this.

The EAI Bareknuckle takes a 1 1/8 headset. I'd put the Cane Creek 110 headset on it.

Ride a 53x 19!
