Stuck cog. Suggestions?

Hey guys. Trying to change the cog on my bike and I'm at a bit of an impasse. I can't for the life of me get my cog off. Originally I used my chainwip, wouldn't even come close to budging. Then I rotaxifed backwards (unrotafix I guess, haha) and even that won't loosen it. I'm incredibly frustrated at this point and would love to hear any and all suggestions.

For the backwards rotafixing I was turning the wheel clockwise when viewed from the drive side. I'm 99% positive that's the correct direction, but at this point I'm worried that if I push it any further I'm going to strip my hub.

Any help?

EDIT: Oh and yes I took the lockring off.

the cog threads the opposite way of the lock ring.

Got it. Just needed to have my roomate twist as well. Both of us twisting the wheel got the cog loose.

i know this would make a few people cry but for future reference if its not a $2000 bike just take off the lockring put the wheel back on hold onto something and pedal backwards with all your might. It should come off.

have you tried that ulock through the spider method?

blast some wd-40 or whatever penetrator you like, let it sit a while, wrap a chainwhip around the cog, hit the end of the chainwhip with a hammer a few times until it loosens. the impact should free it up but just make sure you hit in a straight direction

can you explain the advantage of that over rotafixing (besides dinging up your crank/ulock vs bb (which can be negated with a rag...(yay overlong parenthetical statements)))?

Op, glad you solved your problems, now grease your threads.;)

Yeah it was assembled with loc-tite. I re-assembled with Phil grease, I'm thinking I probably won't be having this problem again ;)

Why do people loctite cogs on non-suicide hubs? I never understood this.

For future reference, I once had a severely stuck cog. I broke a chainwhip try to get it loose (with help from my buddy). I skipped and skidded down a hill trying to get it off, but no dice. The thing that got it though was a vice. Put a piece chain around the cog, clamp it down and crank that mutha off.

Also, conversely, pulling wheelies will get your cog on there real tight.

Ulock through the spider method has to be the worst idea I have ever heard of. It looks like a good way to **** up your chainstays.

Use a rag and rotafix.
