tall guy fixie needed

hey new here, hope i am not pissing inthe cherios. i am tall, 6'6", and i want to set up my first fixie, but in looking at geometries it seems most complete bikes available are kinda short style. i want a more stretched out ride so my feets dont hit the front tire as much and just to stretch out my long frame body for comfort. anyone have suggestions on good frames/complete bikes? i am looking at the iro rob roy (but it has all the brakes and stuff) and the jamis sputnik. i was hoping to find a complete bike just to save some bucks over a ground up build but if its the only way then i guess i can do that. my budget is around 1000$ thanks!

you have a large budget for a first fixed gear bike. are you sure you like it?

the bikesdirect bikes come in 63 . . .

ZiP0082 08-18-08 03:49 PM

yeah -- i'd think that a 63cm with slightly more road geometry than track might fit the bill (and be less than $1000).

yeah, well, in looking at the frames more i am wondering if longer wheelbas is really more depending on rear triangle size, which wont really affect the toe overlap as much i guess. i would really like to try the iro markV or the steamroller, both are available in 62cm. whats the opinion on these?

im 6' 4" with a 33" inseam and ride a 60cm mercier kilo TT. and i believe it comes in a 62cm also, check it out. my bike has no toe overlap and i have XL clips on the pedals too.

my motobecane messenger is a 64cm and i really like it.

im 6'6" with a 36 inseam

True, every generation with good nutrition gets taller

Shorties should go back in time and smack your ancestors for not eating better

I would tend to agree that you should try one of the big Mercier frames... I have an IRO group buy 62cm and it fits me well but it's more like a 59cm. I am 6'2" with a 34" inseam. I could take a frame another cm taller to be honest, but the bb is taller than my 59cm conversion and I can feel the height with a toe down.

So yeah. I think an IRO wouldn't be tall enough for you if you want a bike that fits well in the classic sense, as opposed to having a tall seatpost and stem combo.

I'm 6' 2" but I have pretty damn long legs for my height. I ride a 62 Schwinn World Sport. I can stand over it without smashing my balls, and the seat is about 3 inches above the frame and about 2 inches lower than I want it (will adjust it when my new saddle comes in Wednesday).

You are going to have trouble finding a big frame that does have toe overlap. I have a couple of track bikes and only one has toe overlap (w/ size 50 Sidis), and the is an vintage Italian Viner track that was super steep and extremely short wheelbase. I am also 6'6' so I know how you feel. The old 61cm GT track frames have a big top tube (61cm), 64cm Fuji track that is made anymore as well, plus the Mercier, Surly Steamroller, Giant Bowerys, etc.

so you guys think a 60 cm top tube is too short for me? as far as my balls are concerned, i would rather have a little too much clearance than too little, but cant have a up-sloping top tube for asthetics. gotta say the orange motobeccane messenger looks nice and simple, and cheap. hold on, comes in pink too? now were talking. their website only has sizes up to 61 and the bikesdirect has them in 64?

just curious the numbers. appears the mercier kilo only comes up to 60 but still has 61.5 cm top tube for what thats worth. again the bikesdirect has this model in 63, only in fact , so.. WTF? i gonna start swingin these big ole spaghetti string bean arms around knock someone out!
anybody with a kilo tt please post me the geometry?
