Need advice on new crankset

I recently converted my old 1982 Motobecane Nomad to FG. I am currently using the crankset and chainring that was on the bike. I am looking to upgrade both. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hard to give advice without some more info. What crank set is on there now and why are you unhappy with it? How much do you want to spend?

Andel makes a nice black track crankset for about $110, they come in various chainring sizes and crank lengths, and should fit your square taper french BB

If you're still using the original chainrings, you're probably running a 3/32" chain. Be aware that if you switch to a track crankset you'll have to get a 1/8" width chain and cog to match the track chainring. Or you could do what I've done and buy high quality older road cranksets on ebay and stick with the 3/32" setup. You can buy a new or lightly used FSA, Ultegra, or Dura-Ace crankset (including chainrings and bottom bracket) for 90 bucks. Cheaper, lighter, faster, and can be just as purdy as track cranks. The older chainrings are best since they don't have any goofy shaped teeth so they'll be a lil bit quieter and will wear more slowly-more expensive though.

I'm building up a 1985 Trek 760, and after I toy with the set of 180mm cranks I found in the trash, I'll be going that route.

Thanks man, that would've been a disappointing realization

Not true. I run a 3/32 Sugino Mighty Competition on my 75's. The chainrings routinely sell on ebay for $15.
