Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Can Any one Help me!!

Hi,
My name is Omar and I had a few questions. I want to get into single speed bikes but I am not too sure what I need exactly. I am 6'3" 210lbs and want to build a bike that fits and is reasonably affordable. If you could be of any assistance, possibly with a list of parts and sizes I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for you time and the help.
Omar

In terms of sizing: you could try locally to get sized for a bike, and then go from there. Sometimes your inseam measurement is more important than height in terms of selecting the right size frame -- you want the standover (with the top tube) to be appropriate.

In terms of what type of bike/parts/gearing: what area do you live in? flat vs. hilly? what distances will you be traveling?

I'd head over to the bike shop and test ride all sorts of bikes. That will give you an idea of what kind of bike style you like.

Will you be commuting? Hauling groceries, books, beer? Just riding around campus or down to the local pub? Competing in races? Playing bike polo? barspins? Bueller?
