Trendy Helmets?

Im kinda new to fixed gear, im going to start commuting about 4 miles everyday or so to college and I want to get a helmet.

But i cant stand the looks of the super race ready Giro ones and need something with decent vent holes but not like a cheese grater.

Anyone know any retro or neat looking helmets on the market?

thanks

that looks ********, especially the bucket hat one.

DasProfezzional 08-23-08 08:36 AM

It does. I'd rather look like I'm wearing a helmet than look like I'm wearing a hat that looks like a helmet.

I can't see how those Yakkays would be any better ventilated than a Pro-tec or other skate-esque helmet - it's only got vents in the top! Cool idea, though - hopefully the next generation will have some more vents, and absurd hat styles (top hat, sombrero, viking helmet, rasta tam w/ prosthetic dreadlocks, etc.

Honestly, any one-color road helmet is probably as 'cool' as you're going to get while still having decent ventilation. Kraynick's (on Penn ave) usually has a good selection of plain, reasonably vented helmets for $20ish, and they protected a pal's head when he got a brick dropped on his head from a 2nd story roof, so you know they work.

if those hat helmets have the low profile that the pictures on the website seem to indicate then it is the winner.

those look 10x better for casual urban/daily riding than anything else

except that they have even worse ventilation than any other helmet. And of course looking like you're trying to hide your ugly helmet in an even uglier hat is much worse than just having an ugly helmet.

Casual riding ya ******, doesn't involve sweating

Where are you from? This time of year I doubt I could walk around the block with a full hat on without sweating.

stuck up in the american AC culture are you?

if you live in a hot climate embrace it, ****ing a half the people there keep the house at 13 if it's hotter than 20 I don't get it, if it's 30 outside 24 inside is very comfortable

it's so bad that they no longer know a hat is good hot weather wear

I keep the ac at 25-27 unless there is company. A hat can be useful to protect one from the suns radiant heat in some situations but most of the time on a bike it's only going to make you hotter.
