note: the seatpost will require anyone to get a pro fit, making $1500 bike (old bike was $1200) plus $100+ fit (sometimes refundable) + $100 pedals + >=$400 on-track wheels (Mavic Ellipse)... that's one hefty price tag.
Why would you spend $400 to go from one mediocre wheelset to another. funny that in all the ridiculous added expense you didn't mention the one that is actually required for track racing... cogs and rings. Accept inflation and realize that 1500 is probably about what you can expect to pay for a pretty nicely speced aero track frame.

Because it adds complexity in a situation where it is not needed. For aluminum frames the steel inserts on the old FTP and Concept work fine, and for steel the nice track ends used by Keirin builders with un-painted steel grip very well.
While I am opposed to integrated seat masts I think the real argument for them isn't weight or stiffness but that aero seatposts even in high end bikes are prone to slipping. The connection between mast and saddle holder on most looks a lot more solid. |

It's definitely Aluminum, if it was carbon there's no way it'd only be $1500 and it says "alloy" on the seat-stay.
