about 4003 mph, it helps running 2000 gear inches

mangpress 08-27-08 11:09 PM

my beyblade is a fixed gear

K_phomma 08-27-08 11:46 PM

Over 9000!

The fastest speed you've ever recorded on rollers is 32mph? I've hit 56.2mph for a few seconds, spinning at just under 200rpms.

Although those were the nicest, smoothest rollers I've ever ridden on.

I rode by one of those LED signs that tell drivers how fast they're going and it told me I was doing 25mph. Flat and I'd pretty much spun out on my freewheel. Other than that I have no idea.

Great SCOTT Marty! He clearly dialed it up to 1.21 Gigawatts.

brett jerk 08-28-08 02:02 PM

i hit 26 sprinting on a flat the other day on my 42x17, 64.9 gear inches. There was def a tailwind, but it wasn't crazy. Downhill on the same gearing I've done ~32 (and kept in control).

I've definitely done faster on both but just recently got a bike computer and haven't tried sprinting and I no longer live near hills (I lived in VT, now I live in DE)

johnprolly 08-28-08 02:15 PM

I doubt anyone here is going over 30 mph on the street [flat street anyway]

triplesixer 08-28-08 02:45 PM

I've hit light speed once or twice.

30mph sprint isn't all that crazy (if they're talking purely as a top off and not being able to hold it)

ps: love your blog

triplesixer 08-28-08 03:13 PM

johnprolly, you blog? Where?

Philatio 08-28-08 03:15 PM

something around 32 or 33 mph. 42x17 on 700x23's. I feel like I could spin a little faster, but I certainly couldn't hold it for very long.

Snails 08-28-08 03:18 PM

I'm willing to bet most people who ride moderately frequently can sprint over 30 easily.

edit: most men at least.

kcirick 08-28-08 03:38 PM

Hmm... I don't know cause I don't have a computer on my fixed-gear bike. Why would I?

The only thing that matters is it gets me from home to work in under 15 minutes, or faster than any other form of transportation.

As I posted above, I've done it. It was a peak speed obviously, not a sustained effort. And it's not a superhuman achievement: It's just under 150 rpm with 69 gear inches and about 600 watts. (according to this power calculator: http://www.kreuzotter.de/english/espeed.htm)

As others have said, I've done it... At my ratio it's hard work and I can't sustain much over 25mph for long. If my legs are warmed up it helps - I can't (and don't want to) really spin up much past 22/23mph when cold. While certainly not sustainable I can and do hit 30mph on occasion without hills. C'est possible.

anomaly 08-29-08 06:59 AM

31 mph on flat ground running 48/17, higher than that on a velodrome with different gearing and faster still going down a long hill.
