Bianchi opinion
Ok. Here is the question?
What "informed opinion", meaning have you ridden or seen one, does anybody have of the Bianchi Concept 2000 Track bike. The reason I ask is that I have never ridden an Alu. bike and I have an old lustfull relationship with Bianchi when they still made lovely steel bikes back in the 1970-1980's. I have thought of acquiring a "Newer Style" bike that is state of the art with Alu. frame and Carbon Fiber fork, Hidden headset, you know, all the latest style. Not that I am giving up on Steel or Lugs but Hey, there must be something to these "other" materials. No flames please. In the website pictures the frames look like the welding is almost fillet brazed and not puddled like so many of the alu. frames are. Smooth and clean. I know that the frame is painted flat black but, aside from that, what is the finish like as to the quality of the welds? I will not address the aesthetics issue or which is better Steel or Alu or Ti or plastic (whoops I mean carbon fiber). That is subjective anyway. I know that alu. has a stress memory and is not as long lived or repairable as steel or ti. I am not concerned with that issue. Also, what is the ride quality? I know the rap on alu. frames is that they are "harsh riding". But honestly, most true track frames are not the smoothest and softest riding bikes on the road. They are quick handling and stiff and some are downright uncomfortable. Is there any bad press on this frame/fork that anybody has heard? The cost is about $650 and that does not seem to bad for such a bike if all things are equal; as they seldom are. I would appreciate any feedback that is first hand and thanks in advance. You asked for an opinion, here's mine. I don't like the future looking bikes (does that make sense). It seems like the asthetic of the traditional lugged frame with skinny tubes is the way a track bike is supposed to look. I don't like the over sized downtubes on my Pista, and they are barely oversized.
