dented leader L735TR, should i buy it?

I might be able to buy a Leader L735TR for a very good price, but there is a small dent in the downtube appearantly from a wheel axle in a shipping crate. Should I but this if it's a good deal? Or is the integrety of the frame likely compromised?

They're already pretty cheap frames, I wouldn't risk it.

NEVER buy dented aluminum frames. especially lightweight thinwall ones.

steel keeps its structural integrity after a one time crease or dent. aluminum doesn't.

how dented is the frame you're looking at? if it's a ding, you're okay. if it's any larger than 1/8th of an inch, i'd say it WILL fail at some point.

Even in steel, a dent is a stress concentrator.

Look at it this way - steel/aluminum pipe(tubing) flexes over its whole length, kinda like a coathanger held on both ends and bent with your hands on the ends. The whole thing curves. The stress is spread over the whole length.

Now, take that coathanger, and put a slight crease in it with a file or wire cutter, and try it again. All the stress is concentrated in that one imperfection, and it no longer curves. It actually bends at the crease. Eventually it will become fatigued, and break. Might take years and years, but, it will happen.

A proper repair, would be to fill the void with weld, and grind/polish it back smooth, thereby eliminating the deficiency. Or, weld a full encirclement pumpkin over it to take it out of the mix.

Now, ask the same question......

The new ones are almost $400. That one is an older model.

I wouldn't worry too much about a DT dent, TT maybe. The down tube is under tension, I doubt you'd see a failure there. It doesn't look like a very big dent anyway.
