noise in bottom bracket/pedal?
i keep getting this clanking sound every other rotation in my right crank. i also feel something clicking at that point, but not necessarily from the pedal. it happens at the same point in the rotation every time, and it's more loud when i'm hammering away, not quite there when i'm just cruising.
what can i do to troubleshoot this? mc |
this is the obvious question...did the crank come loose??? Also, I had noise and my dumb ass thought it was the crank but it was time for a new chain...also is ifrom the crank arm or the chainring...
Just turn the bike over and give it close attention |

Did you try removing the pedals and chain and spinning the cranks? If the click is still there then it's probably a bottom bracket problem. If it's gone, spin the pedals while holding them to see if you can detect the click. If the click is in one of the pedals, have them serviced at you LBS or do it yourself.

Pedals tight? BB bearings/cups sloppy? Chainring bolts loose? Chainline OK?

The bearings in your rear hub could also be crap. I have experienced this clicking with my Surly's.

I was thinking it could be chainring bolts... I had a problem with those awheile ago... either that.. or take the pedals off, regrease the threads, and re-install... if all else fails... it might be your BB

I had a weird creaking noise that would come and go and it turned out to be my freewheel. New freewheel and no more noise.
