Frame Painted!

So, my friend sandblasted the frame for me, and I took the afternoon yesterday to paint it. Taping was a pain, and my lack of diligence shows in the lack of clean lines. I'm going to touch it up with some testors model paint or something of that nature.

Anyway, it's an Araya frame from the late 70's or early 80's. I liked the color scheme of the original badge so I wanted to retain some of that in the final product. I decided to keep two of the frame stickers because I don't see a whole lot of these bikes around, unlike the Raleighs, Bianchis, etc.

I used Rustoleom Pro Flat Black and Krylion Glossy Red. Both I already had at home.

I'm still in the process of building wheels for it, but for now it has the old 27" steel wheels. I'll post more photos later of that.

Cheers!

I wish I had a friend that sand blasted, good for you. I have painted a few frames and I thought about masking lugs and doing a 2 tone job, thought for 2 seconds and went, nahhhhhh. Too much work and usually not gonna look like a pro job.
Just curious why you didn't at least remove the BB? It makes for a great place to stick in a broom stick and hang it upside down for the first half of painting. Just a thought, and I remove all parts of the head set instead of masking them.
I say A for effort, B for execution. "They" say don't mix brands of paint since the ingredients might not play well together but hey, it's a bike frame not King Tuts hat.

Just ride it. Try to wait at least a day before you put it together. It's hard for me to do.

Nice long drop outs.

Thanks.

The BB was garbage so I didn't remove it for blasting/painting because simply put it was going to come out in the shop anyway. I used the rear brake stay for a hook to hang it.

Yes, I've seen a lot of two tone jobs and thought they look great so I attempted it myself. I probably would do it again, but I would be more meticulous about the taping. I simply didn't know how precise I needed to be with it.

I didn't mix the paint, so that's good.

Put her back together for the most part today. I'll take some photos. I'm still waiting on brake levers so I can put on new bar tape and run the brake cables.

Malpag_Do you have drop bars? Are you waiting on a brake lever that slides over the bars before you bar tape?

I just got a lever yesterday for bullhorn bars that opens and clamps on the bar. I know it's nothing new but it was my first one since all my other builds had risers and Oury's. So bar tape and brake levers go on in any order I want. Cool.

^ I'm not sure to be honest how these go on. I know my road brifters go on before the tape. I was just assuming that since the Soma Campy Brake Levers are modeled after brifters that they would as well.

Anyone have experience with the soma campy ergo brake levers?

Wow, mummy references..

All said and done, bike projects can sometimes cost a lot of MUMMY!

Ok that was bad.
