My Dawes SST arrived...Not good start.

While unpacking it, I found that the from rim is a bit damaged. The bike was not packed very well.

I will update this thread as I go. I am NOT happy right now.

Let's see how BD handles this.

1. Damaged front rim

2. Rear wheel is so out of true it's un-rideable. It will need some work.

3. Front wheel out of true as well. Not bad, but again needs some love.

4. 54.5cm TT on this bike and it comes with a 60mm stem?

4. Post is a bit short for some at 280mm. But it's fine for me and using another post anyways.

6. Frame looks good as does the paint so far.

7. HS is the absolute worst. Cheap and griding already. I will install a CC or IRD soon.

8. BD site says 28c tires, mine came with 25c

9. Otherwise the bike is spec'ed pretty decent. Bars, seatpost, and saddle are cheap. But get the job done. I will add my own Nitto BH later.

I really hope they will just send a new wheel and I don't have to breakdown and return the whole bike.

I did this twice with Randall Scott Cycles and their Tomasso track bike. No fun!! As I need a commuter now.

How'd the box look? That rim looks like freight damage to me, rather than something that occured at the warehouse/factory.

Hopefully they do you good though.

Box was beat-up pretty good. The usual axles sticking out and what not. I could not see if it was damaged from shipping or not. You know UPS always blame the shipper for packing .

Those plastic ends of the wheels would have prevented it.

Looks like a packing/factory issue.

UPS drivers take out their anger on big boxes. Makes them feel good.

BD says in their emails that you'll need to usually true the wheels before you ride

Correct. Sure, like the front wheel. Very minor. The rear is out of wack! It moves maybe 5mm outward?
If the brakes are completely open it will move almost to the left pad, then hit and stop on the right pad. This is not a minor truing issue.

Ouch, sorry to hear about the wheel issue. Looks like a subpoor packing job, but the good news is that wheel truing is relatively cheap. I just got mine done for $20, and the front was very untrue like your wheels came.

Mine had the plastic caps on all four axle ends. Almost looks like they tore through the box and popped off when the UPS jumped up and down on it.

My SS Moto 29er was crap quality. Never again stupid BD.

You guys might bag on us that pay for a Cannondale or a Specialized...but at least we get quality. Cannot put a price on something that will last, vs crap BD sells.

I went to pick up my Windsor Hour at UPS yesterday (9/15) and when they brought it up, the box was ripped to shreds!

I opened it up right there on the spot and sure enough the entire wheel was BENT to hell. It was bent in a 30 degree angle. It looked like a huge box was placed on top of the bike and the weight of sad package bent the wheel against the frame. I refused the package and wrote BD an email.

They replied today and they are shipping my replacement tomorrow. Good response on their part.

But I just hope the second bike makes it to me without any damage. Fingers crossed.
