Worth it?...
 

So hey guys. I've been looking at buying a new bike since I've been riding an old Huffy Mountain bike that I got when I was like 12 or so and now I'm 19. Didn't ride it for a good 5yrs between buying it and starting to ride it so it's due for a change to a real bike. Haha. So I test road some bikes from bike stores and a few friends bike's. I found I liked FG road bikes and certain CX bikes, but liked FG road bikes the most between the two. Anyways I was just wondering if these bikes are worth what they're asking since I've heard hipsterism is causing prices on FG bikes to be inflated so what do you guys think? I'm asking cause I might be buying one of these also thanks to this forum plus Sheldon Brown's site I won't look like a total noob when I go to the LBS so that's a nice plus...haha. :geek:

Personally, I would purchase the Panasonic frame and build it up. Maybe try and talk the seller down in price.

I find more joy in building my rides than buying them out of the box or that someone else has built.

More like a Schwinn frame built by Panasonic.

The more I look at the chromed fork and pointed fork crown, I say definitely the 'Panasonic.' But try to talk 'em down. There's another thread on here about 10 speed conversions that has links to complete Schwinn bikes on ebay that sold real cheap.

wow all those bikes are sorta expensive for used bikes. are u sure ur size is a 53 but sizing is so important. no need to get a bike if it doesn't fit u well. i think all those bikes are lame. isn't a bianchi like 500 new. i see there are some upgrades with all the bikes but still. the eai is alumn and the bianchi is steel. you should decided if u want to ride steel or alumn first

where abouts in sac do you live?

i own a bianchi pista, and i bought it for around 500. that guy asking 700 for all the stock parts, except for the bar tape is nuts. Buy a new one and replace the pedals. It is a great bike. Steel is the way to go

Sacramento riders!?! Yes! lol. Yeah I dunno...If I wanna build cause wouldn't be like significantly more expensive? I dunno. I figured buying a OFS bike would be easier, but yeah they are all asking too much like I said...inflated prices. Is the Panasonic frame worth building? Or are there better frames that you guys can think of to look for instead? That are cheap...thought I'd throw that in. lol.

they are a bit pricey but they all look okay except i'd stay away from building from a frameset. i guess you can try to talk the price down on the bareknuckle or pista. also, don't know if you've considered this but you can save some money if you get a BD bike.

yea BD isnt a bad choice. im stripping my bike down as soon as it(the hour) gets here and just upgrading the wheel/seat/bars/stem.

oh and go to bike biz to check out FG stuff they have the biggest choice around.

do a search for "langster" there are a few on there complete also framesets, i was going to buy one from a guy in EG for $475 complete which for the price if i were you pick it up.

I picking up a Capo to ride instead or i probably would have got the langster.

Nice to see so many Sac riders; I'm in South Sac. Honestly I'd just wait and get the Kilo TT or the PRO, it's cheaper plus a nice frame on the both. The PRO also comes with sugino cranks if thats a plus for you.

You guys do paint jobs? Cause my bike's paint is messed up and I'm getting bored of black. :lol:

"Chime" I live in the East Sac area. Kilo TT is a nice choice.

you've linked to bikes varying in size from 53-57cm. Make sure you figure out what size you want first, then look at bikes.

Secondly, if this is your first bike, I would do something on the cheap. I agree about building up the Panasonic/Shwinn frame and learning as you go - but don't pay more than $50-60 for that frame. Those pistas are a rip-off, in my opinion (for that price, not the bike in general)

Yeah as for my size I'm positive I'm a 53-54cm as I'm 5'8-ish, but I have like a 30in inseam so my torso is sorta long for my height so I figure the size is right. Anyways I only liked the different sizes cause they all fell in the 53-54 size range.

And the BD Kilo TT are ones I was looking at, but just haven't given too much thought...hmm.

And yeah bike biz is the best. I went into their store a few weeks ago and they got a bazillion things in their shop. lol. Nice guys too.
