Campus Messengering
 

Ive been thinking about trying to start a small messenger service here on campus as a service to the community and campus. I don't know if it is exactly feasible, though, given my tight schedule. Any suggestions on how this might happen? I was thinking of charging about 2-3 bucks for a less than one mile run. Anything more than a mile, going up to 5-6 bucks. Small little grassroots thing, nothing special.

If you're over 21, you can make beer runs with a Timbuk2 Bolo sized bag. You'd make $$$$$$.

Im thinking of marketing this towards busy students who finish papers and need them delivered in minutes, rather than the time it takes to walk. Might also be good for the police department, campus lawyers and professors...I just have to figure out a clever marketing thing

sounds like a great idea. I had a similar one when I moved to Colo Sprngs and lived at Ft Carson for 3 yrs. I talked to the legal dept on post and a slew of others about this. Hell, I even have the necessary security clearances (from my prior service). No bites, and I hadn't even thought about money. I just wanted something to do (my Ex was stationed there, after I got out of the service).
I went to school instead. I think that was the better choice.

The biggest aspect would be time: are you a student as well as a courier? If so, you'll need another person to go hot when you are in class. Having another person on board: make sure they know the risk and liability of the job. Last thing you want is John Q Public coming after you for something your partner did. Or even worse, your partner's parents suing them b/c he slid under a vehicle making a Friday night beer drop and broke his spine. Or what about a bunch of Frat boys wanting to f*ck with the guy who didn't quite get their mid-term delivered on time b/c of the weather?
I know these may sound outlandish, but they may come to fruition.
Just something for you to consider...

Ahh yes, the reality based arguement. The stuff that makes dreams seem dreamy, and possibilities foolish.

Kind of like a "good marriage".

i haven't done anything with it yet, just kicking the idea around, and trying to get feedback. I think it would be a possibility, but would take lots of logistics and time, the latter being something that is lacking. Hell, we'll see what happens.

When you're old, and sitting on the porch, in your rocking chair and fighting the deamons of what could have, should have been, what do you want to face? Do want to look back and see a life of I should have tried, a life of comfort blankettes and yeilded turns. Or do you want to have scars, sore joints, and a tired, yet achieved feeling that you lived life to your plan, and have no regrets?

Trying and failure is better than living on the safe side by any means.

And who knows, it might work.

I live like there is no tomorrow. It doesn't make sense any other way. I take each day as it comes, and i know i will have a bad back, sore knees, and such. I just hate failure. I think im going to give it a try, i know the campus would benefit from it, and it would be a hell of a lot of fun.

im an old Clevelander..well, im 25, but I used to live there..

usually its easier to charge be "delivery zone." meaning, all destinations and starting points in this vicinity are Zone A. And simply charge from Zone to Zone delivery....

Well, my permanent home is Cleveland, in Mentor, but i got to school at BGSU. I think Library returns would be another good one to do!
