Here's my Alien

Here's my 61 cm Alien. I built it up this afternoon. I'm happy - rides great. A bit smoother that my Rush Hour frame (all my stuff came off of a 57 cm.)

I know, some of you are going to cap on my risers, but I like them - and the bike fit's my fine. I'll prolly eventually get bullhorns - but I'll need a shorter stem.

My cranks are Andels from Ben's. I'm running a 110.5 mm bottom bracket. My chain-line is pretty good (Aliens BB's are 103's i think).

I have a Tektro short reach brake. No need for a short reach adaptor.

The powder coat is real thick. I had to file down the ends to get the wheels on. The lugs are kind of shallow, but they didn't wash out too bad. I might get them pin-striped.

Nice!

How tall are you/ what's your inseam? Not sure if I should get a 61 or 63. (Ideally I'd like something in-between,)

667 09-19-08 06:00 PM

I'm an average 6' even . No arm to torso to leg length anomalies. I don't know my inseam.
I thought they ran a size, but the seem more like a size and a half bigger. Maybe I just need to get use to it tho.

Edit: Oups, I meant I thought they ran a size smaller, but they feel like only a half size smaller.

sneaky viking 09-19-08 06:03 PM

Yeah, I don't know mine either. I just thought it sounded more official!:D

I'm 6'2". I guess I'm going for the 63.

That gray's real nice, tho. That's the standard dark gray off the website?

sorry but in my opinion the seat bolt/seat post binder section is just down right ugly but the color and the rest look good.

I hear you. I shot the close up to show the lug detail under the powder-coat.

speeed 09-19-08 08:32 PM

requesting more shots/info on brakes :)

can you tell me more about the bottom bracket and rear hub you're using to get that chainline?

The BB is a Shimano UN54. The hub is a Formula. The brake is the stock Tektro off of my Rush Hour - nothing special, I just pulled it apart, roughed it up and painted it with flat black Krylon. The lever is a Diatech GoldFinger.

I'd be happy to take more shots, but it's pretty standard stuff. What do you need to see?

speeed 09-19-08 09:48 PM

IDK, the fitting of the brakes I guess.

The pictures and description on the site makes it seem like finding brakes that will fit is rare.

I wanted to get one until those pictures came out, but if brakes are easy to find then :)

Understanding 09-19-08 09:53 PM

dammit, this really makes me want to jump on that group buy...

shredsled87 09-19-08 09:54 PM

What seatpost is that?

Miche Supertype. It has speed holes.

You shouldn't have a problem - it's the same type of brake found on every off the peg SS.
I was worried too. I jumped the gun and bought the short reach kit from Ben's - I'm going to return it...unless someone want to take it off my hands (it works with no drilling at all).

admrwe 09-19-08 10:13 PM

nice, haha at "speed holes"

Thanks. If your buying one, I'd say go for the 61.

exfreewheeler 09-20-08 05:44 PM

Those lugs are pretty nice... does anyone know what they are?

estabro 09-20-08 06:25 PM

Thanks.
The powder-coater did a good job.

mr_macgee 09-21-08 02:05 AM

A good brake for the Alien is the Tektro RX-20.

jsource 09-21-08 02:00 PM

nice man!
