my chainring ate my ankle!!!!!
 

As I was powering through the intersection at Foster and California this morning, something happened to me that's never happened before!!

The right pant cuff of my Cannondale pants (the ones with the zipper-short thingys and the nylon cord around the ankle to keep the cuffs tight) had wrapped around my chainring and brought me to an excrutiatingly grinding halt. Luckily I didn't go down!

Result? A sprained ankle, and a nice bruise where the nylon cord wrapped around my ankle, cutting it up a bit, and ruining my pants...and, not to mention, super embarassing...

So..moral of the story...be careful of any pants with nylon or drawstrings in the ankle section...even if they are sinched tight, if they ever loosen, you will be in for a real treat!!!

Fixies and farm machinery seem to have a lot in common some times.

I've had bikes attack before. One smacked the back of my heel with a pedal in mid stroke by throwing my foot out of the pedal as I was hammering. Another one leapt up and chewed the back of my leg with it's big chainring, which didn't have a chain on it at the time.

And then there's the time the trainer stepped out and burned my leg. Little buggers are hard to control.

Glad you're alright, in all seriousness. Stuff like that can ditch you in the middle of traffic.

My pedal (DK Ironcross flats) on my drive side decided to eject my foot on a mad bomb racing cars down a slight downhill street during a lunch hour ride last fall. The chain was an apprenice as it jumped my cog right before foot ejection. Not only did it eject my foot but decided to take a bite out of my lower calf. I now have 4 pin shaped scars in a diamond pattern to remind me of my incident.

I had a friend use used to race track. He accidentally made his thumb short by about 1/8 of an inch oiling his chain one night.

After returning from the hospital, he pried the plug off the end of his handlebars, put the end of his thumb in the handlebars and put the plug back in.

We all thought this was real cool until he sold his bike a couple of years later. When someone asked him about his thumb, Greg realized he had left the piece of his thumb in the handlebars when he shipped the bike. He didn't have the nerve to call the guy and tell him about the surprise in the handlebars.

As Sheldon says...be careful lubing that chain.

superchivo, that is the best story....EVER! i'm somewhat horrified, but, severely entertained at the thought of someone going to change the bartape, or just the plug and finding that....

no kidding, dude...the pants roll up a bit, and are then sinched shut by the drawstring....they were up, until the last second...

I always wear a cut-ff pair of cargo pants, but when its cold, I need the extra protection these cannondale pants afforded...oh well..

aah...sounds like the drawstring was the fatal error there...

when i lived in beantown, in the winters, i'd just throw on an old pair of nasty 80's tight black jeans (the sorta stretchy kind that girls and punks wore/wear) underneath my grungy, disgusting, holey, too-big-for-me volcom cargo pants. kept me quite warm AND!!! since they were tight, they never got caught in the chainring...that and i wear really long argyle socks...and my legs were hairy...REALLY hairy.

i kinda miss those black jeans...my ass looked GREAT in them and i got them for free from a thrift store because my GF was tight with the kids who worked there...gave them to the GF's best friend (who's all into the 80s and tiny like me) when we moved out here...oh well. i still have the cargo pants though. they look like i walked through a mud pit...permanent bike grease stains, chainring imprints, disgusting dirty water from the sludge that got kicked up from the streets all up the back (even with a zefal fender), rusty water stains, burrito juice, they just don't get clean in the laundry anymore, i think they gave up...god those pants are disgusting...but i won't give them up for the world.

bahaha reminds me when I was about 5 I was riding my BMX with my winter clothes on (pants + coat) anyway 2 blocks away from my house my pants got cought in the chain ring and I couldn't get them out of there, so I walked back to my house dragging my bike and crying :p I wish there was a video of that
