N00b question
Alright guys, before I ask I want to say something. Nobody just automatically knows everything about everything. So I'm asking you to please not be smart a**es, and just answer my questions because 1.That's one purpose of a forum, and 2. because it will help me learn.
Alrighty then... I'd like to have a painted chain for my hour. What kind of paint is needed to paint it, or will I have to buy a new with the color of my choice? Again, please don't flame me too hard. |
1.That's one purpose of a forum
I had no idea. Thank you. Do not paint the chain..... |
It seems to me that if you paint a chain you'll kill the main benefit of a chain with links... flexibility. The paint would probably seep into all the links and you'd end up with one very stiff (and unusable) chain. Now, if you had incredible patience, and lots of time on your hand, you could probably hand paint it, one link at a time taking care to not get paint between the pins and plates. Starting with a new chain, completely degreased you might try automotive paint.
Any reason why you want to paint it? |
That's exactly what I was expecting...I like this forum, but I can definitely say that this is the most rude, forum that ever been a part of....I don't understand why people can't just be helpful, and courteous. Not jerks to people that need tips...

I wasn't trying to be a jerk. I just seems like an awful lot of effort for minimal return (painting a chain.)
|
You are too sensitive and did I not give an answer? Just get a chain in the color you want.

Just buy one in whatever color you like, save the stock one for emergencies. Chains are pretty cheap and even the painted ones are less than $20.
|
Know of any good websites to order one?
|
Scroll down.

Use model paint since it will harden to an enamel and be awesome. Just dip the chain right in and let it hang dry |

viper did say he wanted to learn |
Well. I just put my new white chain on, and it looks great. Except. The master link that it came with isn't painted white. So I have a white chain, with one silver link in it. Pretty bummed out about that.

a colored chain is a sign of someone that know nothing about quality bikes
|
white chain? so, you're into dingy gray?
|
i wonder if you can buy a chain with that photo-activated paint the stuff that changes color with heat or sun angle
cuz that would be so distracting |
