Deep V's and a Brake
 

So I have an unmachined Deep V on my front wheel. Today I had to slam on my front brake in order to save my life. Unfortunately, this left a big black ring around my wheel. I have tried rubbing it off with soap and water, but that didn't seem to work. I also tried simple green, but failed. Does anyone have any tricks to get this black ring off, or is my wheel branded for life and a constant reminder of how if i didn't have that brake i would be dead.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's a black smudge. Bikes get ridden. Bikes get scratched. Bikes get dirty. Just be glad you're alright, nobody else was hurt, and most importantly, your bike's okay :)

I think that's harder said than done, seeing as how getting deep v's in the first place means aesthetics are of importance..
but still, i suppose he will get over it.

maybe try scraping the smudge of carefully

machine a track for the brakes? brake more until the paint rubs off?
Not to state the obvious, but you should've gotten a machined front rim if you were going to run a brake...

You should totally buy a new rim. That one has been fouled by brake pads.

yer gonna see some blacklining on a machined rim too. let it slide.

it's a constant reminder that if you are going to use a brake buy machined side walls...

You can't be serious....

You don't want it to slide. You want it to grip. Otherwise, it isn't effective at all.

I believe he meant it as "Let it go", "get over it", etc. Not in literal terms.

i got a bunch of black brake dust on my new white tire after ridiing in the rain, i was a little bummed but i got over it quickly...i wasn't about to wash the sidewalls

Try some rubbing alcohol or fingernail polish remover. Works well on sticker residue as well.
Nothing wrong with wanting to keep your wheels clean, but eventually the paint is going to wear off and there's really nothing you can do about that.

I have unmachined Deep V's with a brake on the front, that black mark is going to be there until it rubs off from the brakes, and by that point there will be other black marks. Then you will see the brakes start to eat through the paint/glaze (what ever yours are coated with). Then eventually it will just be silver and shinny. Might as well get over it and feel comfortable about getting your rims dirty from now on.

Nonmachined brake surface deep v, with a brake on it. And you'r surprised to see that the brake pads are marking them up?

why's the mark gotta be black? Racist.


the solution here is obvious, take your brake off and learn to do sick 180 leg over no handed skidz in those emergency situations.

I have touch up paint ready at all times for this exact purpose. When the paint rubs off or gets marked up I touch it up. My bike must be perfect.

Put a rear brake on, smudge that one to match the front and claim you got these specially made Veeps from Italy.
