That spoke pattern is reported to be inferior to a standard 2x or 3x pattern, but Gerd Schraner suggested that kids rolling spokes is still better than kids rolling weed.

What's wrong with rolling weed?

I've used most of the uncommon spoke patterns on various bikes. Currently I have the 2 leading 2 trailing cruciform lacing shown in the preceding pictures on my rear wheel. That one and the similar 3l3t pine cone aren't any harder to make than a normal wheel and look much cooler. If you use search there are pictures I posted a while ago.

The snowflake on the other hand is really hard to do nicely. It's difficult to twist the spokes around symmetrically (butted spokes are easier since they're thinner in that area) and it doesn't actually look so cool in person. You may also have problems with your wheel creaking as the twisted spokes rub against eachother such that you have to oil them to make them quiet. You'll also have a horrible time if you break a spoke or even during normal truing.

funny thing. I was thinking about the twisted lacing today. since you're going for standing out, I'm thinkin you'd definitely get double-takes if you had it.

here's what bf members have to say about it if you're looking more into it.

He's actually a well-known wheel builder who wrote a very useful book about wheel building. I don't really know anything about his smoking habits.

I built the two wheels at the start of the thread after having built a few normal 3x sets. The "exotic" stuff is out of my system at this point, but they were fun to do.
