Cog Lockring
 

Can anybody please tell me what type of lockring I would need to get so I can attach the track cog to my old school freewheel type hub. It was originally a multi-gear rear hub. Then I took off the threaded cassette freewheel. I'm looking for a non-track hub lockring. Something I guess is normal threading. Thanks in advance.

This is what people use, but it's not really designed for your application and often there aren't enough threads for a cog and lock ring.

If the lockring and the cog thread on in the same direction the lockring would not work as a lockring ---if you get my drift. So it would serve no purpose.

If you're going fixed, get a hub with the proper threading for a cog and lockring.

The standard of the screw of the BB bracket and freewheel type hub is the same.

Thanks for the responses. I know pretty much what I needed. I just don't know where to get it. I wanted to get it at Jensons but, I didn't find it. I understand the problems with using a non-track hub. I'm only 150 pounds and I think the BB lockring with locktite would be enough. Unless i'm wrong, i'm not a velodome rider. Just a commuter. If anybody can recommend me a good BB lockring or a lockring thats good for locking a old school freewheel hub would be great.

Any decent English threaded (24 tpi) bb lock ring will do and unlike some, I don't have as many issues with "suicide hubs" since I have used and still use a few of them and have had no problems over many many thousands of km of hard riding.

I just swapped out the mtb wheel I built with a fixed cog as I built myself a new wheel with a flip flop to get a second gear on Number Five and that thing must have 6000 km on it.

So..

Use industrial strength lock-tite (the red stuff) and once you set the cog and the lockring put the wheel down and leave it for 24 hours to allow the lock-tite to set up... THIS IS ESSENTIAL

You must use a brake with this set up and for commuting it should work just fine...for tricks and skids...maybe not.

The drawback to this is you cannot change your cog once it's set up and removing it may very well trash the hub... a torch is required to release the lock-tite (if it was properly done).

Ideally... a track hub is the way to go.

Your LBS should be able to sell you a bb lock ring for very little money.
