"airless" tires

anyone have any input on airless/solid tires such as these?:

Thinking of throwing a set on my beater/commuter bike. I wonder how well they would hold up if I needed to skid?

Ive never really heard anything good but if they work I would be interested. It just seems easy...almost too easy.

Airless tires, vaporizing ... geez what's next tonight!

I loved the video where he tried to play off the potatoe as a liver transplant during his "im go crazy" phase. It looks like he deleted it though.

seems like airless tires would be heavy, no?

"Micro-Cellular tires are typically lighter than the conventional rubber tires and tube."
thats what their site says, no weight measure of them though, so can't tell what they define as "conventional rubber"

KirkeIsWaiting 09-26-08 08:21 PM

who's gonna try them?

Dannihilator 09-26-08 08:22 PM

I have to call bull on the lighter than regular tires claim. There is now way a solid tire like that can be lighter than a good road tire.

GregLast 09-26-08 08:39 PM

going with bull****. That tire looks like plastic.

Dannihilator 09-26-08 08:47 PM

I want to see the weight of them.

mugatu 09-26-08 08:50 PM

they've been selling airless tires at walmart for years
they're only sold at walmart for a reason
I love how opinionated cyclist needs eight and a half minutes of shaking poorly recorded footage mostly of his neck for what could be better explained with one paragraph of text and a single picture.

it does seem too good to be true, but technology advances everyday, so I'm trying to decide if I want to take a chance. on airfreetires.com they have the legacy daytona "high performance" tire in 700x20 listed at 370g, which dosent seem too terrible when compared to a traditional tire and tube(+air) of the same size. I'm thinking of trying it, since thay have two tires plus install tool for about $70, along with a 30 day unconditional warranty. But on the other hand, theres got to be a reason everyone isnt using these things.

That guy in the videos talked WAY too much, and dosen't seem to be able to edit to save his life.

"I am the greatest cyclist, not the greatest golfer..." what a ******.

I can think of a word other that elite to describe him... What a *******

Dannihilator 09-27-08 09:55 AM

My serfas seca comps are all of 175 grams per tire so, one of the 700x20 airless tires weigh more than the seca comps on the front and back of my bike. The 700x20 Airless tires are pigs.

joetronic 09-27-08 09:59 AM

This video cracks me up.
