Single Speed BMX Freewheel

I have a old thread freewheel type bike wheel that I want to change to a single speed using a Shimano freewheel. Do I have to change the axle spacing of the wheel after I remove the 9speed freewheel cassette and put on the single speed freewheel, Like how people do it when converting to fixed gear. thanks in advance.

If your chain line is not straight you may need to re-space the axel.

If it is 9sp, it is a cassette, not a freewheel.

It is a threaded cassette. I guess you're right about that if the chainline isn't straight then I would have to respace the axle. Also is there any links or tutorials on how to redish the wheel. I see some people describe on how to do it but, I kind of hard to understand. I don't have any tools except a spoke wrench.

A spoke wrench is cheap. For a tutorial, search Sheldon Brown's web site.
