Mottobecane phantom uno 29ner

Does anyone ride one? I am interested in what people think about the bike ...that actually own one. Considering it for a beater commuter. Maybe I'll use it on some well groomed trails once in awhile.

If only there were some type of "search function" you could have used to find the multiple existing threads about this bike.

• Yes, many people own it.

• It is generally considered to be a good bike for the money. (other than having the cable under the top tube)

did the "search" first...found nothing

Yeah, it rocks. For the money, it really rocks. A great commuter, too.

I have one, but right now it sits in the corner of my workshop and sulks at me. Glad I got one of the rare, elusive white UNOs before they sold out!

oh, try spelling it with an "f" and you'll find a few threads here & at the CX (maybe commuting by now, I dunno).

seems like it gets some grief for rear brake cable routing (per above post also), decals not to everyone's taste and lack of brake levers other than the tops. It gets some praise for being a cool, versatile package, with lots of tire clearance & lugs for mounting racks in a FG/SS track-ended frameset for a low new bike price. Personally I dig the aesthetics of the white bike. If it weren't for 10 zillion other things having taken my time & attention this week, I could be writing about what I thought about actually *riding it*. I'd say it's hard to go wrong with one....maybe because it seems like the sort of combination of pieces you would be hard pressed to put together for the same money. By that, I mean, you can get a LOT of bike in a vintage steel lugged frame bike or more modern roadie and I see what looks like some super bargains on MTBs....but I don't see a lot of stupid cheap CX bikes out there...FG/SS or otherwise, really....granted, I may be looking in the wrong places.

Thanks, I will try the f spelling. It does seem like a great deal. Can't beat the price.

fiataccompli 10-12-08 09:48 PM

well, you could if, for instance, i decided I didn't like mine & sold it locally on Craigslist for $300 after not really riding it & installing the forward brake levers....but, yeah...it's alright compared to other offerings for the same price, quite alright!
