i've actually seen a bike like this(if not this one) in person. it's a colnago road bike wrapped in ostrich leg leather. price tag $4000. the bike store i bought my bike from had it there. (On The Rivet in Cambridge, MD) it's a beast.

Nah, leather/synthetic is more durable and color fast than most give it credit for. If you ride in over dyded new jeans, sure it'll get blue, but so will anything else. I have a white flite (new style) that I've ridden on most days of the week for 4 months now and not had any problems, even grease just wipes off. My friend has the same saddle and rode Race Across American (Team Type One) on it as well as a whole season of training miles, and it's just a tiny bit grey on the sides (but his flite gel on his TT bike is a bit more beat up). I also know someone who has had a white perf Turbo since around 1970 or so and it's just a bit grey and worn in some areas. Bike shorts won't do anything to white saddles. I suppose quality of the leather would matter too, but I'd bet those brooks will hold up better than the thin and soft leather used t cover normal saddles. Although my B17 has some scratches and marks on the top, I bet those would look bad on a white saddle.

The Cannondale Track rocks my world. I use to own a Cannondale road bike in this paint scheme back in 93.

trons 12-01-08 09:42 PM

they are chopped cinelli pista bars iirc. ***** bars don't have a sleeve at the stem and you can see the cinelli bar plugs...

tashi 12-01-08 10:27 PM

cinelli bar plugs come with cinelli bar tape, BTW

At full resolution (and that is a _big_ picture) I cannot make out the Cinelli logo on the plugs.

I can't really make out the cinelli logo too but I can see enough of the shape to guess that the rider had some cinelli bar plugs and stuck them on these bars. Im also going to offer that cinelli isn't/wasn't the only company to sell a bar with a sleeve on it so the speculation that the bars are cinelli just because they have a sleeve is with as little merit as saying the bars are cinelli just because they have cinelli bar plugs.

Guess what? There are actually more pictures of that particular bike on teh internet... It's a cut Cinelli bar. It's one awesome bike, as an exception I think the bare bars look great on it.
