there's a track in GG park, but it's not a velodrome. you can take bikes on it, but you also have people walking.

can someone explain this to me? fast forward to about 1:55. why are they going so slow and just looking at each other? and how does Bos just break away from Hoy and beat him by two whole turns?

I may have some of this wrong, so someone chime in if I am. Match sprints are two outa three races. They draw to see who will lead the first lap, and the rider has to be in front on the completion of the first lap (the leader of the first round will be the follower on the second round). After that it's game on, so the lead rider tries to get the other rider in go in front of him. They used to do track stands and all other forms of trickery to do this, because you want to be in second place on the final lap to get the draft up to the finish line. If the second rider gets a decent jump on the leader then he can get far enough away for a draft to be very difficult. That guy got smoked by Theo on the jump, so it was a waste to try and chase him down as Theo is just that fast. Better to save the juice for the next round (if there is one).

There are many different formats of track racing (keirin, madison, scratch, points, sprints, etc.) and the video is of a sprint race. A typical sprint is 1000m on either a 250m or 333m track. But unlike in track, you don't have to sprint the entire race which is where a track stand comes from. Ideally you want to be the guy in back to help you get the jump, which is part of the reason why Hoy was able to win by that much. Another advantage was how quickly he dropped down the banking which helped his sprint.

I definitely know the name. And i think I vaguely might know what he looks like.
He might have been a year ahead of me at the high school.
He definitely wouldn't know me though.

Small word.
I thought no one rides Fixed Gear back at home. I mean you barely see them in dayton...it's not very car friendly
