Just another beginner thread........
Hi, I'm new to fixies and I have several questions.
1. I am at loss about what size bike I should get, but I stand 6' tall. 2. What kind of bike should I get? A cheap beginner one, or maybe an older used cheaper version? I apologize for my ignorance, but i am here to learn. |
Ok. I call BU11SH1T on all these threads.

Go to your local bike shop and test ride a few things. In the process they will help you out with proper sizing. As to what kind of bike, are you looking for a single speed or a fixed gear? |
I swear. There should be a huge flashing link at the top of the SS/FG forum page that takes you to the search page. This is absurd. And say fixed, fixies=poseur

For size, there are a number of on-line bike fit calculators if you want to get into it, but I'm 5'11" and ride a 54cm (a little small according to said fit calculators, but I like a shorter than average top tube) or a 56cm.

It's f-ed up cuz in the title you even say that you KNOW this thread is redundant. Go buy a Draft.

thanks for the help, ill head down to my local bike shop
but fixed gear (1) Get a geared bike and do a conversion. (2) Part together a complete bike. (3) Buy a stock complete. Look at the 2009 fixed-gear bikes thread. I think it is a sticky. That will show you various options. As always, you get what you pay for. If your going for a complete, expect to spend $500 - $800 for merely a decent set up. Do not get anything made by SE bikes (i.e. The Draft). |

First fixed? Buy used! Parting together a bike is going to be much more expensive usually. Of course if you live in an area with a lot of hipsters you may run into the same problem I did, no fixed under 500 anywhere near you.

Measure your inseam, not your height. I've got shorter legs than most so I ride a smaller frame than a couple of my friends who have longer legs but are the same height.
