What wheels for a Newbie?
 

I am building my first ever Fixed gear bicycle. While I'm not new to the art of riding a bicycle, I am new to building one when it comes to parts, etc.

Through research, I have decided that I want to purchase a new set of wheels and not convert them.

I've been trying to research wheels, but don't always know what is the best site to find wheels with a fixed hub.

So, I was wondering what do you guys have? Like I said, I'm new to this, so I don't need a top of the line set.

Would you reccommend buying just a backwheel and keeping the front wheel?

What are some cheap wheel(sets)? Such as under $100 (Or is that possible?)?

PS - These will be 700c wheels completely used for commuting around town.

Weinmann LP-18. Inexpensive and neutral looking. They'll get you up and running.

bens cycle/milwakuekee cycle always has some decent wheels for around 100 a set.

You most definitely don't want to skimp on quality. Formula hubs are pretty solid starter hubs. Look to spend a bit over $100 ($120 is range) for a solid wheel set.

You should probably get round ones....

I picked up this set and they seem decent - $155 shipped and they came with rim tape(save a few $). They were true out of the box, but the spoke tension varied a little(not a show stopper).

After riding on them for a while I picked up a truing stand and tensiometer and retentioned them. Solid now. :D

I looked around a bit and did a lot of reading on this site before pulling the trigger and ordering them. Given everyone's input in the threads, this wheelset is a pretty solid buy.
