help!

okay so i just bought a old 70's Scwin that i saw some kid riding. and im new to the whole fixie thing so this is a project i was going to ask. what gearing should i get if it has a single 48t sprocket.?

also what size wheels should i get?

Critical Jeff 10-16-08 07:12 PM

16teeth and up 700c size wheels

skylinex0 10-16-08 07:16 PM

i have no clue what that means.

Critical Jeff 10-16-08 07:18 PM

16t meaning the cog on the back wheel should be 16t, and the tire size should be 700c

okay. one more question what is the actual piece that makes it a fixed gear not the whole wheel but what would i look up to find that

Spend some time with the search engine... at least make an effort before asking. A lot of build threads in this section of BF.

doesn't a 48:16 leave you with one skid patch?

coppertop4646 10-16-08 08:42 PM

Do not get a 48/16 gear ratio
If you ever get into skidding you will only have 1 skid patch with that ratio
Get a 1/8" 17t cog
You will have 76 gear inches and 17 skid patches
